i got a baby corn about 3 weeks ago, bought a tank from pet warehouse and they guy showed me which lid to buy and said he used it for his baby snake. it had hook like things on the back and front so you had to pull it toward you and then lift up to open it.
that night the snakes gone. im still hoping i'll find him.. i've torn apart the first floor 3 times now, floured the kitchen, sat up late at night with bags around the room. the thing is he hasn't eatin any food i left out, and the cat keeps drinking all the water, so im about to give up. my mom says she'll buy me a new one.
anyways sorry. to the point: can i make this lid more secrue somehow(like w/ velcro) or should i buy a new one? what kind do you have?
thanks

condolences

you have my best wishes on finding him/her.

My advice is =go back to the shop and tell him what has happened and can he offer an explanation (he wont).

Can you post pic of tank, you might get away with placing something on top of it.

Once again sorry mate.....................STEVE:(

what kinds of lid did he tell you to buy? did you make sure it was pushed down all the way? were all the clips on properly? I have a zoomed screen lid and my hatchlings can't get out.

I don't suppose that your cat has a hankering for snakes does it?

Good luck with finding it!

I'd return the cage and get one with a built in sliding screen lid with pins to keep it locked. Good Luck, I hope you find him!

Similar Situation

I know the exact type of lid you are talking about. I have a small tank for babies. It has that type of lid. I kept a small board on top to wieght it down. Unfortunately I bought my wife a kitten. No big deal till it go bigger and jumped up on the tank. I had a king snake in it at the time (albino striped). Came home one night and the board was on the ground. Snake gone. Have not found it yet and doubt i will considering the cat and all. I now keep my tool box on top of the cage and have large board coving the top of my large snake tank(slide and pin type) so the cat can lay up there without failling in. Luckily i found a new baby snow to go in the small tank.

Good luck and I hope you eventually find your snake.

hi i had the same problem with the damn pet store owner. i went to a reptile shop, and i bought a baby king snake, and the shop owner sold me this tank that he said he was secure and that he raised baby kings in before. considering that their shop was strrictly all reptoles, i figured he knew what he was talking about. the same night i brought her home, she escaped through the top. it was a sliding screen top with pins. :( this was about 2 months ago and i still hvent found her, but i've gotten a baby corn snake, and until i save enough money for this other terrarium i want, i'm stuck with the one from the reptile shop. everytime i open and close it, i have to secure all the sides of the lid with masking tape. this tape comes off easily without leaving sticky residues so i can keep un tapeing and re taping it. the only problem is that it's a real hassel to have to do that everytime i open and close my tank. well best of luck to you with finding your snake. i hope this kind of helped.

Try upstairs too. Corns tend to climb. Good luck. As for the cage, I use the sliding screen style for my adult snakes and i go overboard on clamps on regular screens for 10 gal tanks with the youngins. THey only cost $2 per pair so i buy 2 pair per tank. Cheap and it works. The snakes have tried, i have won.
