Well, yesterday I went to the Columbus Reptile Show. I found an interesting wee corn snake, and wanted to get everyone's opinion on this snake.

Lots of pictures to come!

Wow what an awesome snake. The head pattern looks kinda sunkissed to me, but I could be way off there. Beautiful though, congrats

Cool pattern! Neat colours too... have no clue what it could be :p Nice find though! What was it sold to you as?

Wax32 aren't normals more orange/red? and with that aberrant pattern? He looks pretty brownish compared to other normal hatchlings I've seen? (I'm honestly curious why you say normal, I'm trying to get better at identifying morphs but don't always know what to look for)

I think wax was being silly. I know a little bit about certain "easy" morphs (lmfao), but the color makes me think caramel, and the little black borders make me think hypo. Is it an amber? I don't know if that's a sunkissed head pattern, but sunkissed always throws me for a loop.

My first thought was Caramel too, cause that's exactly what it reminds me of, a caramilk bar lol.

and tsk on Wax! Or maybe it's just too early for me to pick up the innuendos through text LOL. :nope:

It doesn't really look like a caramel to me... they usually have more silver background but like I said before I could be way off.

Well, I was sort've being silly. :D

A weird looking snake like that, without labels on it, might as well be a normal...

Buying snakes at shows and not knowing what you are getting is a pet peeve of mine! Breeders usually label their snakes well. I am guessing this was a reseller selling this snake? AT this point it is going to take breeding trials to figure out what that guy is.

What was he SOLD AS?

He could very well have some caramel/hypo/ het sunkissed going on there. To me he has too much black to have any of the hypo type traits, but who knows? :D

By the way: I might not have been able to resist him either, he IS a very nice looking snake. Choosing what to breed him to is gonna be tough. Hopefully it is a male which will make proving him out faster.

The seller had about 15 snakes from the same breeder, half looked sunkissed. Same approxiamate pattern aberancy at the head. This one is very yellow, just hard to get it on camera. Looks like an older sunkissed caramelly kiddo to ME. But could be anything!

Sold as normal. 45 bucks. See why he came home? Lol.

What are your plans for him? I'd breed him to a normal (preferably het for nothing, but how easy is it to find one of those??? ) then breed some female offspring back to him.

Awesome pick up!

To me the thing to do would be to try to prove him against things you THINK he might carry... i.e. caramel and sunkissed.

It looks like a normal to me, and if it was sold as one at that price.. it probably won't do you a whole lot of good to start scheming up that it is a bunch of other more rare things...

Definitely looks like it might have some nice hets. I was thinking "hypo" at first until I saw the closer shots of the eyes and obviously black borders.

Remember that normals have a HUGE range of variation. As Dave said, nice normal ya got there. :)

The fun part of why it was sold as a normal, along with everything else on the table, was that the lady selling them had no idea what they were.

Sunkissed is a weird hypo/pattern gene. Sometimes it's obviously hypo-y, other times it's more a pattern thing. Still weird enough to buy, and even just het for both traits, is still not bad for 45.

Need my other camera and a couple of normal colored ones for the differences to be more obvious.

Methinks I may name him Snickers. Who knows what's inside!
