Moving to Larger Tank

Hi all,

Well, we finally took the 30 gallon tank out of its 7 year hiatis. We washed out all the cob webs, cleaned the tank with water/bleach solution and now we're in the process of rinsing out the tank. I'm a little nervous about having residual bleach in tank.

We are getting ready to move our Corn out of its 10 gallon tank and into the 30 gal tank.

We have never done this before, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A few questions:

1. Can we use the same heat pad that we are using on the 10 Gal? Do we need a bigger pad, or higher wattage?

2. What's the best way to acclimate snake to new tank? Should we move some of the existing aspen shavens and/or hides to new tank so snake has familiar scent?

3. Can 2/3 of tank be cool side and 1/3 be warm side? Or should it be 50/50?

Anything we should be aware of during transition?

Thanks much for feedback.

Don't worry about the bleach, as long as you rinsed everything well it will be fine. I would suggest a new uth because the one for the 30 gal is bigger then the one for the 10 gal and will give you a better heating area. Putting the familiar hides and used shavings is a good idea and will make it seem more like home:) The tank doesn't have to be 50/50 as long as there is a warm area for the snake to digest it's food and warm up if it wants to. Another suggestion, make sure the lid fits down real tight. (I'm just kind of paranoid about escapes:eek: ) It sounds like you have everything in order. Hope your snake likes the new home:)

Yes it sounds like you have everything under control... I wouldnt really mind about the UTH because just as long as they get a warm spot so that they can digest their food... I would definintly move all of its hides into the 30 gal but this is the time to clean out all the bad shaving that the corn has been living in... I would probably just use new bedding... You should make sure that theirs enough hides in the 30 gal so that the snake doesnt get stressed... even though older snakes are less prone to stress in large areas... AND THE BIGGER THE TANK THE EASIER IT IS FOR THE CORN TO ESCAPE... I cant stress it enough make sure that your lid is tyte and wont just pop open... other then that... Your on your way to happiness...

Wise words about escapers! I learned to my bitter regret that my lovely ghost corn managed to pop the lid of his nice tank and I haven't seen him since :(

I would suggest not handling your snake for at least a few days after moving into the new tank so not to stress it out and avoid any feeding problems. Also, this will be a much larger tank so make sure there isnt too much open space. Make sure the snake will feel secure.
