my female cornsnake is 450g and she wont eat small so i have to feed her rat pups

ive tried all the tricks there is just wont go for small mice or anything like that

is it ok just feeding rat pupsx

It is perfectly fine to feed rats instead of mice. I feed either to all of mine, although most prefer rats :) Only thing is to feed appropriate size and watch to make sure that she gets enough excercise because rats May contribute to getting abit fat. I dont have that problem but from what I have read on here most are just watchful when feeding rats.

rat pups aint all that big compared to small mice thou so i just make it same size as the mice

am i doing the right thing ?

They're fine. Rats have a higher fat content so feed as normal. If however you begin to see spacing in her scales then it's time to make her exercise more.

At 450g she should be eating jumbo mice or even rats...I think you need to try some more tricks to get her to eat the hairy food:eats02:

i know but ive tried everything she doesnt seem to go for hairy kind. jumbo would be too big for her.

Have you tried warming it in hot water and then drying it off and leaving the snake and mouse in a small enough contianer Over Night That usually work for My Non-Feeders

Well, I've got an adult male corn who is 350-400 or so, who regurges if fed adult mice. He eats either three rat pinks or three mouse fuzzies, once a week, and very slowly gains weight. So you _can_ maintain a snake on multiple small prey if you want to.

Ya you Can But its Not healthy for the Snake Think of it this Way ! Say your a 250 pound Man That Eats Three Meals aday Now That a healthy Diet But on the Other hand if Your the Same MAn and Change your Meal intake to 6-8 Meals a day but smaller portions you gain weight cause your body is intake Calories and Sodium that it cant burn off Naturaly So you began to gain 15- 25 Pounds a month thats an un healthy diet this can relate to the snake and if the snake regurges An Adult Its trying to tell you somthing 1. either the tank is not at the right temp/ 2. He is sick and has Stomach problem/ 3. ITs to big and down grade 1 size and feed it 2 at the very most snake obisity Can and will kill the snake if the scale start to spread apart and show it under skin this is not good

Thanks for your input; this snake has been seen and treated by a vet and this is the recommended way of handling the issue...

This is largely unintelligible and as far as I can determine, incorrect.

If you eat the same total amount of food, but divide it into smaller meals you will not gain weight.

no ITs not your Recomended to Eat 3 Full size meals daily Not 6 Small meals ask a personal trainer your body cannot take the extra hour or so of calories you pump in thus u become Fat

Tf you just google metabolism+multiple meals, you will find many many articles stating that it is recommended by most nutritionists and trainers to eat multiple small meals as opposed to 3 big meals. It boosts your metabolism and keeps you from getting hungry and gorging yourself at meal times.

To get back on topic, though- to the OP: I would listen to whatever Nanci says, maybe you can slowly boost the snake up to hairy rodents but feeding multiple fuzzies...
