Hey guys,
so i have noticed that everyone likes to post pics of there art work, i have been wanting to put some of mine on here for a while but just never got round to it.
All of this stuff except a few pics at the end are all from college, I studied fine art at college for 2 years. A lot of this stuff is wierd and wonderful lol.
At uni it was all less fine arty because i did an animation course for 3 years. It was just making a lot of films, less pure 'art'.

Anyway, i hope you guys enjoy having a look
Let me know what you think either way.....

this first piece was from a project that i based on 'Celebrity', its pretty cartoony (one of my least favorites)....

The next 3 were on a project about 'Self Identity'.....

This next lot of pics were all based around a trip that we took to venice.
The first couple of pieces are portraits of 2 of my friends in st marks square were all the pigeons are, (done using mixed media in my own style!)

these next two are also from st marks square, i saw a little girl in a bright red dress playing amongst the pigeons and i turned it into two paintings, its pretty dark and moody, i didnt want to make it to obvious as to what you are initially looking at.....

sorry if it looks like some of these pics were taken at a funny angle. My port folio is really big so it was hard to get great pics!

Those are great!!! You have a lot of talent!

hey thanks robbie :)
people used to think i was a bit twisted or something because i used to use so much charcoal and all my work was really dark most of the time! haha

it will be interesting in september when i start my teacher training course learning how to 'teach' art and not do it!

I don't know about twisted. Then again, I like the dark-ness of them. :D

thanks guys!
im glad you like them! theres loads more were these came from, il have to try and dig out some more stuff!

Those are really good!. I really like the first piece on your second post. It's all over the place, in a good way, and it's fun to just take a minute to look at all of the little pieces that make up the puzzle. Very interesting stuff, and I love to see people who try to develop their own style. Keep it up!.

ye i love that piece more than anything i have done i think! i started out on course with that one and then once i got going i kind of just went off on one only just sticking to the project brief! haha

Do you use mostly charcoal?. If so I really like how you use it. I used it once when I took an open studio course a long time ago, but it never felt natural for me!.

thanks buddy!
ye i used to absolutely love working with charcoal! Its really forgiving, you can go in really bold and thick with it and then get a rubber and take it away to create the fading effect that you can see on a lot of the charcoal pieces i did.

i just dug out some old sketch books and took some pics, il post them later.

Ya, my grandfather is an artist, and he always says to start light, because you can always get darker if needed, but I'm the same as you when it comes to being bold and then erasing for the lighting effects I want. I like to get everything into a very set mood, and then work within the framework I create. That's what I love most about your art, is that you start so bold that it creates all these small details throughout your work, and then you just use what you have to create the intimate details. It looks really good when it's finished. The first thing your art reminded me of is this painting I saw from artist Jason Chan. http://www.jasonchanart.com/gallery/2005/family/girl_color.jpg. You completely have your own style, but from the perspective of mixing real figures, with surreal tones or moods, I find it similar. Great work and I will definitely check out every bit you post. I love to see what type of art people my age come up with. Especially those willing to develop a style, and who do risky stuff that translates really well in a lot of different ways!.

What school did you study Fine Art at, if you don't mind me asking?

REALLY like the paintings the best...that rough, painterly look is very appealing. Were they done in adcrylics? (I'm asking because of the glare...I have that problem when I scan in my acrylics. =( ) LOVE the rough, gritty look on the sketchbooks...makes it far more interesting ( I wish I'd have thought of that during my portfolio)!

His first colored one is charcoal, I think, and the one of the colorful man is watercolor, I believe. I also have the same problem with acryllics when I scan, or just in general. That's why I try to use flat colors to prevent the glare, because otherwise I just get headaches with it. What kind of art do you do?.

Illustration, mainly for children or artwork for games ....I should say "whatever anyone will pay me to do right now". That's the starving artist way!

I work in digital when I can, but I still enjoy doing some traditional stuff when I find the time. =)
