Hello.. About a hour ago my baby corn died. I found him in a very strabge position. He was completely contracted, like that: sssssss. I had him from pet&co about a month ago and i immediatly noticed 2 things: he had one eye much bigger than the other and he was veeerryyyyy thin ( we could see his spine). I fed him 1 pinky every week and he ate him, but as i said he was verry thin so the little pinky was a huge bubble in his body up to 3 days after he ate it. The snake was very tame and calm, i could handle him easely and he never was deffensive/agressive. I noticed that he was verry lazy since i fed him last time ( 6 days ago): he was hanging around in the middle of the cage without hiding and he didnt react when i approached him. Also the pinky was still visible in his body after 6 days ( is that normal?) the temperature in the cage where 29 celsius in his hot hide and 21 in his cold hide. There was heeting tape under the hot hide and a heat lamp on the top of the tank too. Now i dont understand is it my fault he died? Or was it a health problem? ( also when i got him he had 3 unshedded skins one on the other at the top of his tail, and i removed this) I dont know if i should take another snake.. Thanks for help and sorry for bad english^^

Sorry to hear of your loss. Your baby was probably unhealthy from the start. Many people her would say this is why you should not buy snakes from chain pet stores. Sadly many pet stores don't take great care of their supply. It's best to buy from a breeder or show because breeders know that their snakes are well taken care of and you can trust the source and go back to them if you have problems.
I don't think you did anything wrong. You just bought a sickly hatchling. The bad shed is a sign that something wasn't right (temps, hydration etc). Just try to be more cautious where you buy from in the future.

It sounds like he was quite unhealthy and should not have been offered for sale. Are there any breeders you can buy from, there, rather than a store that sells unhealthy babies.

I went through almost the exact same thing with little Plissken, except he held out for ~4 months. He was also chain store bought (but I don't default to that being the reason). These things unfortunately do happen. Some little guys just don't have much of a chance from the get go. And compound that with potentially bad husbandry from a chain pet store and it usually equals a recipe for disaster.

It can be depressing and a bit discouraging but don't let it get you down. As soon as you're ready, you should definitely find a breeder local or on here (there are tons on here that are absolutely amazing, and shipping a snake isn't as bad as it sounds), and try again. Possibly with something a little older, maybe around 6mo - 1yr give or take. It took me a while but I finally got back on the horse and I'm loving my new addition just as much as my previous.

Ok thanks for answers everybody! Yes i think he was unhealthy when i got him.. I will find a breeder and buy a healthy one :)
Have a nice day everybody

This disturbs me...I am so sorry for your loss of your baby. I am new to snakes and I have fallen in love with snakes in a very quickly in a very short time.

This baffles me. I am sure there are some Petco stores that are better than others. I got my corn Paisley from Petco and she is healthy as could be. She always eats, never regurges, and sheds in one piece. The people at the store had a record of her eating before I bought her and everything. I'm amazed that such a sickly snake would be sold like that. So sorry for your loss :/ it definitely doesn't sound like it was your fault. Good luck in your hunt for a new baby! :)

thanks you :) in fact mine was the opposite of yours: he had 3 unshedded skins on his tail that i had to remove, he regurgitated a lot, he was verry thin and had one huge eye (like every baby corn) and 1 little eye. but her caracter was amazing, she loved to cross around my fingers and she was extremely tame :( but then she died :((((
my new one is a beauty but man he is so nervous and he is sooo jumpy when u handle him  but yeah this one at least is healthy, he has a huge appetite, normal eyes and shiny skin :)

Oh I can't see the pics! :(

You're new snake looks very healthy and is really pretty! I'm sorry for the loss of your first baby though ):

Just curious, but are you using the same thermometers that were taped to the backside of the tank in the set of pictures with your old snake? Because they make it pretty hard to monitor the correct temperature of the floor of the tank. If the temps on those thermometers were all the way up to 20*C then the floor temp was likely much much hotter.

Also the pictures make it hard to see your whole setup, so it might be okay and I'm just not seeing everything, but did you have hides on there with the snake? :)

Good luck with your new pretty baby!
