My Big Newest Edition.

My Little Sunshine
So I have been busy this past week preparing for the arrival my newest animal addition. He is finally home with me. Here is some info on him.

His name is Oreo. He is 6 years old. He is a Medicine Hat Black and White Paint. He has one BLUE eye and one brown eye. He doesn't seem to be fond of men. His teeth need to be floated and filed down. He is a handsome, sweet, and short. But he is wide. Pictures below were sent to me from the old owner. The first two are from when they first got him. I will try to get some of him here.

I LOVE HIM!

P.S. I got my driver's license!!!

Nice lookin horse! I have never seen one with two seperate colored eyes before... how many hands? he doesnt look too short.

I'm not fond of paints, and any animal with different colored eyes makes me crazy--I gotta have symmetry! LOL! Still 'n' all, he's a VERY handsome boy, and he looks healthy and well cared for. I hope you and he have many happy years together :).

Can you please tell me what it means to "float" their teeth? Just what goes on with that? I had horses growing up, and if it ever happened, I don't remember it.

Float is like a dentist cleaning our teeth, just a horse dentist. During the floating they also grind down the sharp canines to be flat.

I didn't know you needed a driver's license to ride a horse!! :sidestep:

:D

Personally, I think some people do need a license to ride a horse. :roflmao:

So I know this is off subject a bit but can you get a horse riding under the influence ticket?

Congrats on the horse & the drivers licence!
I love paints! One of my favorites!
I miss having horses.
Be sure to post lots of pics for us! :)

Hmm very interesting...not that I own any horses or plan on riding one drunk, just wasn't sure what the law said

There are some crazy laws out there concerning horses. Most of them were made back when horses were necessary and then with the advent of the car, people forgot about them so they're still out there. Someone on a horse forum sent me a list one time. One of these laws was you were not allowed to ride an ugly horse into town. Just who decided that your horse was ugly??? I mean to some people, anything that's not a thoroughbred is ugly!

But that painted pony there is definitely not ugly in my eyes!

P.S. BTW the Indians had a belief about horses with mismatched eyes. The brown eye was for seeing during the day, the blue one for seeing at night. Any horse with eyes of 2 different colors was doubly lucky!

Really? Wow!

I felt bad for the other horses the woman had were I got Oreo from. She had two studs, one colt, a mare, another gelding, and Oreo in the same pen. It reminds me of keeping a Ball python, and a boa together.

EEEEK! That's a recipe for disaster! I was boarding a young stud colt here at one time and had some issues which made me call a friend of mine who had a lot of stallion experience. She told me a stallion can be kept with other stallions. ( Within reason. Meaning some stallions will not tolerate other boys so know the disposition of the individual stallion you are dealing with! ) Stallions can be kept with geldings. ( Which I have now. And I have relative peace. ) Stallions can be kept with mares----if you don't mind her always being pregnant or having a foal at her side. But you cannot keep a stallion, a gelding and a mare together. Squabbles will frequently break out the kind of squabbles you may have to call the vet for if you get my meaning! $$$$$$$$

How is this situation working out??? How small/big is the pen????

Not very good. Two studs, a colt, and a gelding were in stalls. Oreo and the mare were in the pasture. The palomino Tovero Stud is torn up pretty badly, meaning fresh opened wounds. The grey gelding had old kick marks. The Black Tobiano Stud looked like the boss of the place. Oreo was covered in old kick and bite marks. The mare didn't have any marks from what I could see. They had two one acre pastures, a large round pen, and a small pasture in front of the stalls.
