My corn seems to be interacting with his shed skin?

It's been approximately forever since I've been on this site!

I had to inquire about some odd behavior I witnessed just a minute ago. My okeetee corn, Seamus, seemed to be interacting with his shed skin which I haven't remover from his tank yet. He was twitching against it, honestly it almost looked like he was humping it! He did it for a few minutes and then left it alone.

Anyone else have any experiences like this?

Hahaha I've never had any of mine do that before, but maybe he is just being "hopeful". It is breeding season after all. Or he thought it was a rival male in his territory.

That's interesting. We've seen a few in the last couple years that have re-entered shed skins. I'm sure the skin is loaded with pheromones.

That's pretty funny. One of mine just ignores his skins, and I've never witnessed that behavior in any of my others; now I'm curious.

Was he stuck to it, perhaps?

On that note... has anyone ever taken out the shed skin while it's still wet?? Definitely not what I expected. It was kind of gross. And I'm the type of person that is not adverse to vomit and those kinds of things.

Yes, very gross. First full shed with Isis I made the mistake of trying to "unravel" it while it was still wet... ick!

With buddy's second shed after we had him he did it on the carpet and used my jeans to start it of so yes did handle it when wet lol not nice lol

Non of my 2 have done that with there skin tho

I've done that, but I apparently don't have much of a gag reflex, because it's never grossed me out. I always try to grab the skin while it's still soft and damp, so that I can get it unraveled and stretched out; I do this because I like to keep the skins for educational programs, and they're no good if they're all wrapped up in a tight ball or twisted in every direction. The kids love it when I hand them a five-foot python skin; they can fit their arm through it like a sock! :)

One time my BP decided to roll his shed in a ball and hide it under his water bowl. I don't know how old it was, probably only a day or 2 as had had just changed his water. Naturally, I began to uncurl it to check if he shed his eye caps...
That thing was so wet and stinky, we had to vacate the room :puke01:

I vowed never to unroll a shed again D:
