Actually, its very easy to find all the information you need. Take corn snakes. It is very likely that someone has asked the same exact question you're ever going to ask a hundred times on here.

So just use the search function! Seriously, it's the best. Wonder why your eggs are caving in? Worried because your snake isn't eating? Should you keep two snakes together or keep them separate? What age/weight is safe to breed them at? It's all there in black and white. Members who have been here for years see the same questions over and over again.

Combine a google search and searches on forums and... you're pretty much set. I mean you should always ask questions but only AFTER using the search function and AFTER googling it.

I go to a forum that will berate you if you ask a question that's already been asked, because that shows you probably didn't use the search function.
 
I recall when i first started here as i am not to good with computers i failed miserably i couldnt figure out how to post a new thread for people who dont have thr skills it would be much easier to throw the main things out there
 
A coworker has often told me that my mind works differently than anyone else's, so my searching usually doesn't find what I'm looking for. Even when I know I've seen it, read it and am trying to find it to refresh my memory. But I try to find it first.

I think if people, when asking the questions, would say that they've searched and couldn't find it, or found conflicting info, or wasn't clear on something, it would be taken better. People are much more willing to offer help, if they know you've tried to find it on your own first.
 
Oh definitely!
I know that I will spend days googling different keywords to find something, where my husband will throw some vague search term in and if the first or second link isn't what he wanted give up. Not everyone can do exhaustive research, even if it would be beneficial to their pet.
I normally keep a few good sites/caresheets in my computer bookmarks, just in case someone is looking for information. I always figured that I was weird like that though. :p
 
Just thought I would throw this out there and this is what I meant by a basic info page as it turns out I am not the only finding out very crutial things

Going back to my point before if we can supply the basics they can do the research (its hard to ask questions about something you dont even know of)
 
The top of almost every individual forum has a sticky that has the information that people are asking. Such as the beginning of the breeding forum has a sticky with information from people who have been doing for year and years. And the info on when to breed is in there. Same thing on not eating hatchlings. So I don't think it is a matter of not using the search feature it is a matter that people are posting before they bother to read. It is recommended that people read the sticky's in each forum before posting questions because many of these questions that are asked over and over are in there.
 
What Christen, you're saying we shouldn't eat hatchlings??? But that's the best part of the season! Didn't know that's controversial now too :(
