My first big snake!

Bookworm
Up til now, I only had an itty bitty hognose. I took a drive on a lovely autumn day and brought home a new boy! He's a yearling normal ball python, supposedly had pastel sibs. He's 500 gr and 3.5 feet long.

I need both palms to hold him!

The Pringles can is 10.5" long...

And a better shot of his face. Our cat has two stripes by his eyes like that too!

AND, I relearned how to use my photobucket account!

That you said big snake, burm is a big snake. A ball python is a small python. I do have to admit he is healthy and nice looking.

Not a fan of Ball Pythons, besides the albinos and leucistics. But he is very handsome. Congrats!

O.S. Garters are venomous?! o_O

Yes, garters are venomous. Just like Daddy long leg spiders are the most venomous spider in North America. However, both can't get their venom into to you.

I think that they proved the daddy long legs thing as a myth... I think they proved that they can bite, and they are harmless. But yes, garters are venomous too!

AliCat37 - You are right and I am wrong. That is what I get for not doing my own research. I must admit that when I found out that Hognoses and Garter were venomous. I did not believe it for a long time because I use to play with them when I was a kid. My parent would have never thought they let me play with venomous snakes.

haha, No problem Fatman, it's still a common myth. I just recently found out about the whole garter snake thing and didn't believe it for a while. But I've been bitten by them before and figured it's so primitive or mild that it's not dangerous. My parents won't touch my hognose, even though I've explained that he's harmless unless they jab their fingers down his throat and they end up allergic to the venom.

Beautiful new addition. And I didn't see you at the show! About 30 people wearing pink fleece jackets lol.

Not a problem, I had fun anyway! Got some feeding tongs, and a larger hide for the ball. I had to buy feeders for him too. I got 25 small rats for $25. I was a little stunned to spend that, but had to remind myself, that's 6 months worth of feeders.

Haha, I the first person I saw with pink fleece, I was like: "Theresa?" She looked at me like I was a loon. I met another corn owner I've been talking too up there. The short lady with the red mohawk. Ashley. I had fun too. That show is much better than noblesville!

Ate his first F/T!!

I waited 10 days after bringing Xander home, before I fed him. (We couldn't decided on a Bones-themed name, and my son is big into Buffy right now...) I was letting him settle in, but also wanted him good and hungry. His breeder always fed live, but I'm a f/t kind of girl! Wow, even the small rats are big compared to the large pinkies that the hognose eats!

He was out roaming when I opened his tub, kinda startled me. When I dropped the rat in, he jumped too. Both of our hearts were racing! It took a few minutes before he started sniffing around. He grabbed the rat and coiled around it. He ended up with his head upside down! It was another couple of minutes before he tried to eat it. I left him alone, and went to feed the hoggie.

I just checked and can't see a rat anywhere, but can't really see a bulge w/o opening the tub back up. I'll check him tomorrow, but I think it was successful. Yeah! So much easier to keep a bag of rats in the freezer, than to go out and buy one every week.

Here's me, being brave! (Gosh, I really need a haircut.)
