I was expecting all hets for coral snow, but I swear I see ghosts or anerys in there. I guess it's possible Tabasco was het anery?

I guess maybe I should've put this in the breeding forum, feel free to move it mods.

Well done buddy I feel the excitement too.... I have been drinking though,,,,,
No seriously well done, nice one.... And they look great

Today is day 72, as you can see a few are still pipping. I'm not sure if they started coming out yesterday or today, as I forgot to check them yesterday. I know I'm bad, but we have a hurricane heading toward us and I've been getting stuff ready.

So, now ....

My first question is this: do I let them stay in that tupperware (no holes, but they seem to be getting some air as it doesn't really seal that tight) with the damp moss until they shed? Or should I move them to individual boxes right away?

2nd question: when should I pop them for the first time to determine sex?

I think it's entirely up to you whether you want to move them, or leave them until they shed, my preference is to move them, but a lot of other members leave them, your choice :)

I pop mine straight away if I'm eager to know what I've got, but have had times when I've popped again after shed and females turn out to be male :shrugs: Again, I suppose it's whatever you're comfortable with, but I would still pop them a couple of times, a few days between, to make sure you're as certain as you can be :)

Congratulations on the hatchlings and the hidden het, makes pipping more interesting doesn't it ;)

I for sure planned on popping them more than once, just wasn't sure when to start doing so. I have read lots of stories here about girls turning out to be boys. This will be my first official baby popping although I have been shown how at the reptile show here in New Orleans. Wish me luck! (I'm scared!)

So far 2 "normals" and 4 anery looking ones are out of their eggs and I set them up in Lock N Locks. I have the normals grouped together and the anery's grouped together for now. I will be separating them very soon.

Thanks for the responses. :D

I'm wishing you luck *fingers crossed* :)

Have a look at the tails, see if you can see a difference in shape, immediately after the cloaca, looking at them side on. If you can find one that looks thicker, try that first, hopefully it will be a male and you will then know how much pressure to use, start gently though ;)

And stay safe!

Make that 5 anerys. :D

Initial round popping: 2 normal girls, 4 anery girls one OBVIOUS boy. :D

The one boy didn't take much pressure, so I feel pretty confident about my sexing technique, so far. :D

I'll do them at least twice more in the next day or so.

This is so COOL. :D

I wasn't expecting to feel this excited lol.

I hope it misses us too. This city doesn't need more destruction. I'm not TOO worried about the house I live in though. It came thru Katrina with barely a scratch and it doesn't sound like this is gonna be anything like that. But, you never know.

I'd suggest to try popping again after they shed and maybe once more before being sold. Over the next day or so their skin is going to get a bit tighter and until they slough, it could make popping more difficult, I've had males pop as female, when in shed ;)

I'll warn you now, you will feel this excited every time you have a clutch pip successfully :D

Congrats again!

Thanks everyone! The clutch is now mostly out of the eggs. There is only one left (an anery) that doesn't seem to want to come out. It had already slit the egg, but I was worried so I enlarged the slit a little just to see if it was alive in there. I was greeted with a nose poking out. I guess he just isn't quite ready to come out yet so I left him/her alone.

The clutch seems at rough estimate 1/2 normal phenotype, 1/2 anery. They were moving around a lot as I tried to divide them up so I lost count, lol!

So, considering my surprise that Tabasco turned out to be het anery, I guess this means the clutch is Anery het hypo & amel, and Normal het hypo, anery & amel. Unless of course Tabasco was somehow also carrying het hypo. I guess that would be pretty hard to discern visually.
