my first corn snake!!

RO = "reverse okeetee", also known as an "amelanistic okeetee". They are called "reverse" as often as "amel" because normal okeetees are known for really thick black boarders* around the red saddles, as well as a bright orange background color. Amel versions of a good okeetee still have the orange background, but the red saddles are surrounded by a thick band of white instead of black, hence they are "reversed" :)

*I could go into the locality vs line bred okee thing, but I don't want to make things too complicated!

yep! Amel = amelanistic, or lack of melanin, the black pigment in corns.
As to whether lack of black => white :uhoh: well, depends what other pigments are there. If there is no red or yellow then yes, it should look white :)

okay okay what have i gotten myself into! at least i sort of know what amel means now! and hypo means hypomelanistic, right? which means black?

sorry

Wanted to say Im sorry if I misled you on my first reply to your question. I wasn't thinking when I was typing. But for some reason I was just saying the "color" of the snake wasn't creamsicle. I didn't think to put that if it has any cream in it, it's called a creamsicle no matter what it looks like. :shrugs:

Sorry about that!

Maybe you could go through some of the breeder websites: http://cornsnakes.com/forums/index.php scroll about half way down you'll see Serpenco (breeder and owner of this forum) go further and you'll see a list of breeders. Google South Mountain Reptiles. All of these sites will give you endless amounts of information not just on morphs, but care, breeding, jokes.

Well, weather is looks like a Creamsicle corn or a Reverse Okeetee I can already tell you it is going to be a real looker! Check out those borders!!

SO cool. :)

Very beautiful little snake! Why not just ask the breeder next time he comes in. Sometimes its impossible to tell if a snake has emory blood in it unless you get a full account of its parentage from the breeder. The snake seems to have too much red to be a Cream, but in a few pictures its head looks a bit longer than "normal". I remember a thread posted by Carol a long time ago proving that sight discrimination is NOT a reliable way to decide if an animal is a hybrid.

Since you said "Creamsicle or something close to it" the breeder may have given you a nice amel. I think your snake is going to be exceptionally stunning when it grows up. It has some nice color already and great boarders. Very cute Reverse Okeetee! If you want to see how it will look when it grows up, do a search for RO or Reverse Okeetee. Or get Kathy Love's Cornsnake manual! Sounds like you have quite a few questions that are answered in the manuel, and I'm sure there will be more to come. Kathy features a very handsome RO on the cover of her second manual.

Welcome to the world of keeping corns!
