The Snewbie
I'm *hoping* for some neat results, but I'll be happy with anything ;)

Here are my 2 momma's. Both are from Joe Pierce(Thanks Joe!) and at least one is gravid, both are sitting nicely in their laying boxes now :D

Females:

Amel (Poss. het Lav/Stripe) & Normal het Amel (Poss. het Lav/Stripe)

And here's Daddy, he comes from Mr. Pritzel(Thanks again Chuck! :))

Male:

Amel het Lavender/Anery (Poss. het Motley/Hypo)

So to break it down, I've got:

key:
ms = stripe
mm = motley
aa = amelanistic
anan = anerythristic
hh = hypo A
vv = lavender

Females:

1. aa·aa poss. V+·vv M+·ms
2. A+·aa poss. V+·vv M+·ms

x

Male:
1. aa·aa V+·vv An+·anan poss. M+·mm H+·hh

C'mon Murphy...do somethin' cool!

I'm hoping, of course, for those females to prove out to be het for Lavender at least. :D

We'll see....

Well...the amel *should* be laying within the next couple of days(she's already had her pre-lay shed). The normal, I'm not so sure about....she's been kind of a hard case to guess. She's looking MIGHTY fat and gravid, but hasn't had her pre-lay shed. I think I caught hints of her entering blue phase, so hopefully within the next 15 days or so....

Thanks :)

Wow, I didn't know you were a "1st timer". Congrats, it's very exciting!

Thanks carol. Yep that's me, the Snewbie. I am VERY VERY excited about these pairings...now I understand the whole "Christmas in June" feeling. :D

BTW those pics were taken before any of the girls were introduced to the male. I'm awaiting my dig. camera to arrive in the mail any day now, so I had to use some old photos(actually taken by Chuck and Joe Pierce).

Wait a second!

There's something fishy going on here! Are you trying to tell us that "Mr. Pritzel" had in his possession the aforementioned amelanistic cornsnake??!??!?

BLASPHEMER!!!!!!!!! :devil01:

I don't know what kind of sick joke your trying to play here Dot, but it needs to stop right here Mister!

Wow Daniel, you jumped in with both feet eh? LOL I've got to exercise patience! Awesome chances you've got there for some nice babies....put me on the list?? ;O)

Of course Jen(that's the only way to jump in :D)

If you're serious, you are first on the list...pick o' the litter :p (that is if you find anything worth pickin')

Oh and CAV...Chuck couldn't wait to get that vomitmel out of his house I'm sure. Which is why it is NOW in my posession :p

Congrats Daniel!

Can't wait to see what you get, fingers crossed for some lavender noses to pop out. (FYI, if you've never seen a fresh-hatched lavender, they're quite brown at first.)

I take it no one is rushing to claim that new morph type.... :grin01:

Best of luck on your breeding Dan !

good luck!

and just as an off note, i think my vomitmel is the prettiest snake out there!

I'm always serious about my snakes Daniel! LOL Top of the list, pick o' the litter......too cool!! I'm hoping MY luck doesn't sneak over to you. :cool:

Alrighty-o here's an update...

Well as many of you know, these pairings didn't produce the best results...my normal female died in the egg-laying process. She had 10 eggs, 4 of them had to be 'surgically' removed. Consequently those 4 didn't make it. My amel female decided not to be interested in having eggs this year...so...I have 6 eggs from my deceased Normal female. *sigh*

Regardless of all the mishaps and oopsies, it has been a really big learning experience. Moreso than if everything went smooth as pie, methinks. So, at least there is a positive side. Another positive is that I *should* have hatchlings in a few weeks.

I did want to post this update because I suppose as all new father's are, I am kind of worrying about every detail. So I thought I'd post a couple pictures to get opinions/suggestions.

This first one is a couple of the eggs that have just decided to indent themselves and no matter what I do, they don't plump up.

I've placed them near the edge of the container, because there is more 'moisture-action' over there, hoping for results...only minor changes. Can I expect fairly good odds of these little guys hatching? It just seems like they would be mal-nourished without more moisture. Humidity is good in the container. :shrugs:

Here are the other 4 eggs. Can you tell me if they look to be going bad?

Thanks guys :) I know I worry too much, but hey, I'm allowed to right?

What bad news..

Was sorry to read that your female died, thats a shame.Lets just hope that your remaining eggs are gonna hatch some corkers..I have my fingers crossed for you.Keep us posted on what does hatch..v :cry:

The two collapsed ones look pretty ropey but if it were me, I'd leave 'em in anyway .... you never know.

The other group of four, the one on the far left doesn't look the greatest, but by no means a lost cause. The other three, from what I can see in the picture, look fine.

Good luck with them! Fingers crossed for you .... :)

Place a damp (not wet) paper towel over the top of the eggs. This will help slow the rate of evaporation and retain more moisture in the incubating material. I've seem good hatchlings come out of bad eggs so cook 'em until they collapse.

I believe it's fairly normal for the eggs to start to drop in a bit shortly before hatching, so if they just started sagging like that, could just mean they're about to start pipping. Either way, they look fine color wise to me. My 1st clutch (ok, was only 1 egg, so not really a clutch, lol) the egg was completely caved in on the bottom for the last 2 weeks or so, but the baby came out just fine. A little on the small side, but has shed twice and is a very healthy eater. You never know with these snakes, so just stay patient. Good luck, and here's hoping they all pip out nice and healthy for ya :cheers: The 1st time is definitely a wild and cool ride.
