This is Jeffery Jenkins. He is 3-4 yrs old and my first snake. I was trying to work out what colour mutation he is because he looks like some of the amelanistic outcrossed blood reds but also like some of the yellow creamsicles.

Any input?

If you could post pictures of his head that may help determie if he is a creamsicle. He looks very yellow for an amel but I'm no expert either. If he is a creamicle or possibly a creamsicle and you breed him it would be nice to know. susang

susang I'm picking him up on Saturday so I will try and get a picture of his head then - are there specific head markings that would make it possible to tell? He is quite yellow, his colouring IRL is closer to that of the 2nd picture than the first which is why I posted it too.

Well I have a creamsicle he is very yellow, when I first got him all the pics of creamsicles were red/orange and white. So I posted pics and was told the shape of his head and if you go to SMR you can see pics of yellow creamsicles. Although I have yet to understand the head thing??? susang

I had the same problems identifiying this one im still not 100% if she is Amel or creamcical

^^ She is pretty whatever she is!

Jeffery is very like the yellow creamsicle on SMR which was why I couldn't see whether he was an amel. OC blood red or the YC. They look so similar. I would say he is nearly as light in colouring as the YC on SMR

Nice snake! The paler, yellower /orange amels may well be creamsicles, but most if not all corns have some degree of emoryi heritage. There was a thread a while ago about which hybrid markers were reliable for telling the difference between pure corns and corn/emoryi crosses and I think the result was that it can be impossible to give a definite answer a lot of the time.

Well here's mine. The only time I think it is critical is if you breed. I will be breeding mine this year to an amel female, so the babies will be evil hybrids, and that's how they will be sold.

Sorry! Emoryi are closely related to corns, they're Great Plains ratsnakes. They are bigger, 'chunkier' and not as brightly coloured as corns, usually. They were deliberately crossed with corns to give bigger, healthier hatchlings. They naturally interbreed in the wild too where their range overlaps.

Thanks Janine!!

Susan he looks just like yours only slightly darker! So that makes him a yellow creamsicle?

Maybe I am color blind, it's possible. But to me this looks like a "Butter" morph. A lot of yellow and little white.
It's Amelanistic+Caramel basically.

Could be mistaken, but Amelanistic tend to be more "reddish" and Creamsicles seem a hell of a lot more orange.

If anyone feels I am wrong and can correct me I will appreciate it- because to me it looks like it's a tad of avoiding the obvious? :shrugs:

His colours don't seem to be as contrasting as the pics of butters that I have seen. He is the same kind of colouring as Susan's. I popped by today and got some more pics, in some he appears to be a darker colouring but actually isn't - silly camera!

He isn't this dark but it shows the shape of his head:

His face disappeared as I took this one lol

If you say he is the same colors as Susan's than okay... but to me the two look as different as day from night in the pictures. *scratch head*

Its like janine said without knowing the snakes genetic history, then your never going to be 100% sure. Saying that, perhaps weve overlooked the obvious as Kokopelli mentioned, it does look like a butter.
