My GREAT find for the day!!!

Unfortunately, I couldn't get him to eat that first time, so I let him go (you'll note that this is an OLD thread). I haven't caught many more Red Racers and I do not know why they "pink out"... I actually caught a very GREEN one last year. This year seems to be all about the Bull snakes. LOL.

lol, well good luck next time!!
Well, I may need that luck! Caught a really good sized bull snake in front of one of our homes and one of my girls wants to keep it. We'll see. He's about 3.5 feet long... defensive, but doesn't strike and is really handsome (not sure about his sex, but we all call it a "him". LOL. I'll see about getting pics up sometime.

Congrats! I caught a very pink one last year in the water at Havasu!

Here is my wife bravely holding it after it bit me 26 times give or take :D

Ah dangit this thread is totally old! Gah serves me right when I dont pay attention to the post dates and not reading the posts until after I post. Blah!

:headbang::realhot:

That's okay, Markus! I actually enjoyed "suddenly" having my old photos resurrected and getting to look at them again. :)

YOU are a lucky guy to have caught TWO beautiful specimens (the snake AND the wife)! ;-)

As for the biting thing... the ones that I've caught tend to MUNCH... I mean bite and then twist their heads back and forth to try to get maximum flesh tear with their small teeth. LOL. I remember literally dripping blood from several wounds on my hand and arms. The thing is, I would rather be bitten by a Red Racer than a bull snake... the bull snakes that I've caught look like they could do much MORE damage than a racer... YIKES!

Well then I am happy to contribute to the enjoyment :cheers:

And thank you I feel quite lucky as well sir!! She was a brave one for wanting to handle that snake and took her very first snake bite from it too!

And yes agreed that little fella was doing alot of what you described as well as some crazed striking and hitting whatever it could as we held it for a few minutes there. Plus I am sure it was none too pleased in the way it was caught as well. It was happily swimming along in the shallows and I saw it from the corner of my eye and I ran as fast as I could and dove for it right before it got to a very dense area of brush covered land that I would have never been able to chase after it in. My wife's grandma thought I had lost my mind as she was standing there talking to me before I went running off like a crazed wild man (ala Steve Irwin) and dove for the snake just barely getting it by the tail and pulling it up out of the water before it got to land. I think I scared the liver n lights out of the little thing (and my grandma-in-law too haha)! So it was in a very foul mood indeed. We both were bleeding a good deal from the bites, but the pics were so worth it :D

And yes I'll take a bunch of little bites from one of these over a big angry bruising bullsnake too!
