I was talking to my mom about breeding my corns, but then see said that they will stink up the house. I said they won't if I clean the cage. But my mom disagrees, could someone make this clear? Do corn snakes stink up a medium sized house even if I clean their cages?

There are many animals that would stink up a house much quicker then snakes. If you do regular cleaning there shouldn't be any oder at all. If you have other critters, like mice, dogs, cats. They smell up a house MUCH quicker then 100 snakes would do in my opinion.
 
I only smell my snakes right after they've left me a fresh poop. Remove the poo, the odor leaves as well. Honestly, the cat's litter box stinks much worse.
 
I've _never_ smelled anything from my snakes. They live in the bedroom, living room and kitchen.

From the little ones never, but once or twice from Kieran when the poop was fresh, there would be a something, but once the poop dried up (if I couldn't get to right then), the smell was gone. Definitely the kitty litter box would smell worst :)

They don't have the musky smell of rodents.
 
I find that people associate bad smells with snakes because of dirty pet stores that sell reptiles and raise feeder rodents in messy cages.

The local reptile shop near me will singe your nose hairs and I've had friends ask me why my snakes don't stink.
 
Seriously, I think you mom is saying No for a reason besides this. I would wait tiil you are older and prove to your Mother you are responsible to take care of 30 + snakes at one time. Plus this will take up some room that your mom may feel you do not have at your home.
 
I have kept all sorts of animals (dogs, cats, hamsters, mice, birds, fish, and snakes) My eight snakes smell less than any pet I've ever had. And they certainly smell less than a 13 year old's sneakers :sidestep:

LOL. :) Well I did breed Garter snakes. But, I got rid of most of them. :cry:
My mom was OK with that... But then again, Corn snake food, vivs, and any other thing a corn snakes could need costs a lot of money... I will talk to her saying that I can make the money, and she doesn't have to do anything.

ps. we just finished cleaning Norman's cage a few days ago. (The Garter) I will have to talk her into the idea. :shrugs: I hope she says yes!

Trust me, I have a 30 pound overweight cat who likes to think he's potty trained, but god forbid if you don't clean the litter once every two days, you find nice turds all over your living room apt in the morning. Pisses me off. Also got a little calico cat weighs in at prob no more than 8 or 9 pounds and that think can stink up a house bad (she still sprays, never fixed... wish my fiance would get that taken care of lol). But yea compared to raydin... please. Even after he uses the bathroom (and I feed him two fuzzies every 6-7 days) there is almost no odor at all unless you stick your face clear into the viv. Have your mom print out a copy of this thread and I bet with all the experienced people listing in it I'm sure she would at least think it over. Worse case scenario call up a local breeder and get them on the phone with her. I bet they'd tell her the same. As long as you have normal conditions, a decent rack for holding, and clean out bedding weekly after the snakes have defecated I see no evidence to back her theory there. Later man.

I read everything, then I gave it to my mom, she said we will give it a try! OH YA!!!!!!!! But then she said "I am sooooooo glad we don't have a cat" Then she started laughing like crazy.... It was weird.... But It was funny, Thank you! You are all very helpful.

And yes, cats are far worse than any animal I've had as far as being stinky. I clean my cat's pan daily. I hate litter pans. She used to be housebroken, she'd go outside with the dogs, but now she's an old lady and is inside all the time now.
The next stinkiest pet I own is Toby, my hamster. Even with weekly changing of his bedding, he still gets funky. I'm not big on keeping rodents personally, but Toby was a rescue. Some one dumped him off at a petstore where we were holding an adoption booth. And he's a sweet little furball.
I've been to people's houses where they own multiple snakes...no smell. And I've been to other's houses where they breed their own rodents, their rodent room is funky smelling. Even with daily cleaning, rodents just smell.
