My new bloodred and first corn

After a few months of waiting for it to warm up outside and coordinating delivery, my little female bloodred arrived yesterday. I had a very pleasant experience ordering her from Rebecca Purdom of Triple-R-Corns. This is my first snake, though I've had a couple of small reptiles before.
She's around 7 months old. Guessing by her diffusion now I think she'll grow up to be a very nice bloodred.

Just before putting her in her viv she just wouldn't hold still:

She hid right away but just an hour later we came home to find her exploring:

Once the illumination light above her viv went out I turned down the room lights to see if she'd show her face, and it worked!

Don't worry about the cardboard hide, I was very careful to prevent any sharp edges or tape from being exposed. I made the multi-room hide originally to figure out where she would prefer hiding so that I could replace it with nicer hides later, but she seems to like it quite a bit.
That white temp probe has also since been removed. It has a max/min function so I was using it to monitor different areas in the months before putting her in. I do have other temp probes at either end to monitor things daily, and a Zoomed 500r thermostat has been keeping the temps on the hot side within 3 degrees C between night and day.

Sometimes I think I'd like to ditch the rack I have and just keep 3-4 corns in different cages; always like to see people's setups. Sounds like you've got everything set up just right. JMO I'd "bury" the hides more in the aspen. Snakes seem to like having contact with where they hide. Having a lot of space under/in a hide is kind of like laying out in the open, at least it may feel like it to a snake.

Just a suggestion, for what it's worth, I buy hides or make hides that are bigger than the snakes need, so I'm not constantly buying newer bigger ones as they grow, but I fill the space up inside with crumpled tissue and the smaller, younger ones seem to really like, that as they can feel as if they are in a smaller hide. So you might consider doing something similar with those open hides.

The BAH-1000 seems to have a better reputation, but I think the 500r should be fine for most people.

I fed her for the first time today. As I dangled it in front of her I was a little worried when she ignored it at first but she quickly gave it one experimental strike and then struck again properly coiling all around it in a very dramatic display. It took her the better part of ten minutes to get it down. I don't know if that's long or short but everything seemed to go all right.

That's a business card in there with her. I used it for the measurement reference necessary to measure her with the SnakeMeasurer program. Apparently she's 17.1306145304322 inches long.
