My New Corn Snakes!!

I got a female normal stripe het for Amel, anery, caramel, motley, motley stripe and butter. The male is a butter motley het for amel, caramel, stripe, motley stripe and I do plan to breed them when they get breeding size!! I may get some butter stripes! I got one snake as a trade for one of my baby cockatiels and the other one as a payment for petsitting some of his snakes!!

The Normal Stripe Female

They are lovely snakes. ^_^

On the list of their hets though...

A stripe is two sets of stripe alleles at the motley locus. Stripe is recessive to motley, which is recessive to normal pattern. If you have a stripe allele and a motley allele, the snake will appear to be a motley.

Thus, your normal stripe female cannot be het for motley or motley stripe. Also, a butter is an amel caramel, so listing amel, caramel, and butter is a bit redundant.

Thus, your normal stripe female is het for amel, anery, and caramel.

With regards to your male, as I mentioned before, a butter is a snake that is expressing caramel and amelanism at the same time, so your guy isn't het for amel, he's homozygous for it.

So, your butter motley male is "het" for stripe.

This means that, pattern wise, these two will produce an even mix of motleys carrying a stripe gene, and actual stripes. You will produce, morph-wise (excluding pattern), normals, caramels, amels, and butters, which are 50% het for anery.

Thanks yeah I don't understand the genetics yet but will catch on soon!! That sounds great as long as I get some butters I hope and also I forgot they are also both possibly het for snow. Melissa

I named the butter motley Fabio off of the I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Comercials, The female normal stripe I named Ruby and I also posted some new pictures of them.
