My new DIY snake rack..

This is my new snake rack. I got the idea from some racks I saw on Youtube. For right now I have four snakes on the rack, my amel strip and banded motley on top, the rootbeer and crimson are on the second level. The crimson is a yearling and is in the smaller tub. I'm using the thermostat from Big Apple right now, everything is working great temp wise and all. The bad thing is I now have room to expand.:laugh:
And only 10 minutes into her new digs and Pumpkin poops in the corner. Snakes :nope:

Was the heat tape pre-wired or did you wire it yourself? I would love to replace our individual heat pads on various racks with heat tape. So much simpler!
 
Awh that's a cool idea. We're new to keeping snakes (only have the one hatchling at the moment) but my girlfriend would love to get more. Are yours to keep as pets of for breeding?
 
Mine are pets, but I do plan on breeding. I loved raising baby geckos from hatching when I used to have leopard geckos. I look forward to the experience with my corns. I'm also very excited about the combinations I can get. What I like about having a rack is it enables me to keep my collection more organized and the tubs are easy to clean.
 
That is a really nice DIY rack! *mental note*

What type of plastic containers are those? I've seen them before, but don't remember where to find them. I really like the way the handles fold up to lock the lid down.
 
They are Sterilite 34 quart tubs. I picked mine up at Wal Mart for $4.50. But I've also seen them at Meijer's. (Costs more there) I like the locking lids also and they don't cost that much more than the normal lid containers.

I certainly don't need any kind of rack system (yet), but it's always nice to learn new things. :)
 
I use the same tubs for several of my snakes, and I'm thinking about switching over my remaining colubrids and small boids to tubs like that. One thing I do differently though is stick some adhesive velcro about halfway down each side to hold the non-locking sides of the lid down.

Have you ever had any problems with your snakes getting out while just using the two latches on those lids?
 
Earlier it was brought to my attention that the snakes might try to escape through the sides and to use clips. So I have the metal clips ( the office type) holding the sides shut. I'm glad I took the advice, because not five minutes into staying in the enclosures two of my snakes were pressing thier noses along the edges looking for weak spots. At least for now they have given up and have settled in.
