So I went to the Minnesota Reptile Expo and ended up coming home with a Jungle Carpet Python! In keeping with my Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme his name is Angelus. Enjoy!!

I paid nothing since my my friend that was with me bought him for me as my birthday present! :) (But he was $75)

He is gorgeous! I'd love to get a carpet python but we saw an adult/full grown at a show recently and their size scares my boyfriend. :(

Thanks! And that's a bummer, maybe you can have him handle one that's super docile and he'll fall in love with it?

Here are a few quick pics of Angelus now that he's mostly settled, I still haven't picked him up, he was just being enough of a sweetheart near the top of the tub for me to get pictures!

And a tongue shot! Yay!

Solo, look into IJ's, they're the smaller of the Carpet Pythons. They don't get nearly as big as some of the others.
I agree about having your boyfriend get some hands on experience with Carpets, he will fall in love with them! They have cool personalities & are generally more interactive with people.
When I have friends over, Tyr, my Jungle (not quite full grown) male is generally the life of the party. Some of my friends bug me to bring him out so they can hold him.

Thank you! I love him a bunch already, it's going to be hard not taking him out while he settles in! :p

Carpets don't need so much settling in IMO ... They are quite hardy...
In fact when I sell them I tell people they will feed as soon as they get them home.... And normally they do.... And the little snake in a big viv syndrome doesn't seem to affect them so much (as long as you got plenty of perches and vines)
I'd get him out and check him over if I were you ;)

Not all carpets are large, in fact hardly any are that big...
If you want smaller and placid look for an Irian Jaya (IJ)
Alternatively change the Bf... And have any snake you want:grin01::dgrin:

Oops sorry didn't see the last 2 postings. We'll see about a carpet python later on. The one he saw at a show was large and squirmy and I saw how uncomfortable it made him. Probably if we got it as a baby and watched it grow it wouldn't be nearly as intimidating.

Well then, gotta take the advice of the experts right?! :p I'll get him out today! WOOHOO! Gotta tell ya I'm pretty excited to hold him and see his personality some more!

I would agree to looking for a baby, they're SO cute when they're little it'll be hard for the b/f to say no and watching him grow would make him less scary IMO. I agree with snakewispera snr though, you could always ditch the boy to have any snake you want!

How long is he?

He's around 21 inches, but that's just an approximate since he wouldn't hold still for me to measure him!

Alright how's he doing now that he's settled in? Is he nippy at all? I'm totally doing my homework and consulting our resident expert, nwheather, because I so want one. :) It will either be IJ or Jungle for me, haven't 100% decided yet.

Gorgeous! I love my IJ mix. She has a great personality and she is sooooooooooooooo pretty! They are very addictive. I'm already thinking that I need a Jaguar for her--preferably an IJxJag mix. They're so striking that it's hard to imagine any snake coming with such an intense and bright combination of colors. Congratulations!

He's doing great, a little cautious about being picked up at first, but just about any baby is. He's not nippy AT ALL!! He's a sweetheart already and only 3 months :) So for me, I'm all about the JCPs now!!

Thank you! Now I'll have to go scrounge for pics of yours! I just love the bright yellow/black mix of the color combo, it's stunning. And he loves to hang out on the top of his branches at the front of his tub all the time so I can always look at him whenever I want!

Adding some updated pics of Angel, who's been a doll, I think the hubby needs to handle him more often though, he seems to only like me?
