When I was checking on my little snake yesterday, I found that she was laying on top of the digital thermostat that had fallen down from the side of her viv. At first I just thought she must have felt it was a warm place to rest, but as I looked closer, I noticed she was stuck to the really sticky adhesive squares I had used to stick the thermometer to the glass wall. I was horrified! She was stuck in four differnt corners in the shape of a square. When I went to pull her out she was squirming all over and her skin was stretched so much I was scared she was going to tear herself open.
I didn't know how the heck I was going to get her loose. Then I remembered that some folks use oil to get rid of mites on snakes, so I grabbed some canola oil and degreased the remaining adhesive around the snake. I took a Q-tip and gently started rolling it along side the skin where it was attached. Slowly I was able to get her loose. She did leave behind some clear scales on each adhesive, but luckily her skin didn't actually tear. I was supposed to feed her, but decided I would give her a few days to de-stress. Ok, no more adhesive in the viv! I'm such a dunce!
