Name that puppy cross! ~ what is she?

Okay~ I don't know how I keep winding up with more animals~ but it's happened again. Our good old dog Atlas had to be put to sleep last January. Ever since then I've been saying I need another dog. A good dog~ a big dog~ like my good old Atlas (Boxer) or Kira (Rottwieller) before him. But~ it's hard to settle down on a choice~ don't want the drool everywhere like Atlas had~ don't want the hair everywhere like Kira had.......

My friend works for Animal control in the neighboring county. Yesterday she picked up a puppy~ 5-6 weeks old. They were no foster homes available. Puppies under 8 weeks get euthanised if there are no foster homes..........

So guess who has a new dog?

Well~ she's not actually my dog. My friend didn't have time to take on another pup~ so she is fostering the pup and I am taking care of it. I know my friend~ she did this because she thinks I need another dog too. And the puppy is awfully cute~ and very sweet! (stinks like a puppy though! LOL!) Once she is 8 weeks old she can go out for adoption or I can choose to adopt her (already falling in love here though~ I know that was the plan)

What is she do you think? She is about 6 inches tall right now~ cute as a button. Has milk teeth~ eyes are open~ but still have that milky sheen to them. She is eating canned dog food mixed with puppy formula very well. She is very playful~ but only for about 45 min then she needs to take a 2 hour puppy nap wherever she fell down! LOL!

hmmm, adorable perhaps? I'd guess a shepard mix, but I don't have any real knowledge to back it up. I love those fat bellies puppies get! Congratulations on your new puppy! :grin01:

Shepard/Husky? It's hard to tell when they are so young! I would almost say Akita in the mix but those feet look too small. :shrugs:

That little fat belly of hers is EXTRA fat~ as in full of worms! Yuck! My friend had the staff vet at the shelter worm her before she brought her to me........her last several feces have been almost all dead worms. Nasty! But not really suprising considering where she came from. I guess a little boy had her~ his mother didn't want him to have a dog~ but someone in a parking lot had given the boy the puppy. This was apparently in a pretty seady innercity area. She's pretty lucky animal control was called and my friend picked her up rather than she was just dumped somewhere.

Thank goodness the boys mother cared enough to insure the pup had a better chance than the man who was giving away too small puppies did.

It's a flower sniffing, shoe tugging what-do-ya-callit. And loves every moment of nap time and exploring. hehehe Whatever it is very cute. susan

Chow/Shepherd, with a little bit of Marmot (hey, nice marmot!) in the face.....

....and cute all over.

regards,
jazz

Looks like quite a mix, with some shepherd, a little husky, but the ears have me thrown as they don't fit either...

oh oh oh, I know this one. It's an... um... what do you call it... FREAKIN ADORABLE DOG!!!!! Yep, that's it. Freakin Adorable Dog.

Yep. And now that "Chow" has been mentioned, that would explain them as well.
Got a tounge pic? LOL.

I have a husky/shepard mix...and he didn't look like that when he was a puppy...not saying that that's not what this adorable one is. I think there have to be a lot of other things in there too. Maybe a 4 way mutt or something..I definitely see chow and shepard.

Wow...I just read that and I sound like a bumbling babbling baffoon....so, it's very cute whatever it may be...it made me say "AWWWWWW" like so many things often do.. CUUUUTE!

i would definitely say there's some chow in there. the ears may prick or stand up when he's a bit older. at 6 weeks most pups ears that are going to stand up are usually still flopped down. the fluffy coat, curled tail, and "teddy bear" face make me think chow.
but he may very well be a 4 way cross or what we call a "heinz 57"

with back yard breeders there's no way to tell for sure.
definitely need a tongue shot, but shepherds, shibas, and shar pei's have purple spotted or solid purple tongues nowadays too. it's a myth that only chows and shar pei's have purple tongues. and when you cross a chow with another breed, the pups dont always have purple tongues either.

i'm fostering two pups, shepherd mixes. their tongues have purple spots. not a drop of chow in them.

Thanks everyone! She sure is a cutie!

I can't get a pic of her tongue......I broke the LCD screen on my camera so I have to try to hold it to my eye and look through the view finder to take pics~ and I can't hold her mouth open and hold the camera well enough at the same time! LOL! The tongue is pink~ no purple or blue that I can see at all.

She she is a lot of work too........I had forgotten how much work puppies were!

With the coat, colour, tail curl and ear set (they look like they might stand up at some point), I think there may be some elkhound or keeshond in there. She doesn't look like she's going to be large, which would also lead to that assumption. Keeshonds especially give a chow-like appearance. Here's an elkhound puppy for comparison.

I don't think he's a keeshund. My guess was also a shepherd mixed withakita or husky.
He's very cute!!
