Name that puppy cross! ~ what is she?

I think elkhound, not keeshond. Definitely something spitz.
I don't think too many can be found in "unsavory" neighborhoods, let alone given away, so I didn't consider it, but my Mom breeds and shows imports if your interested, :D

Woa. Are you suggesting that because this is a pound pup that it is from an "unsavory" neighborhood? Let me tell you, I've been to lots of shelters, and I've volunteered at the Humane Society, and from what I've seen irresponsible pet owners are not just from "unsavory" classes. The shelters get in lots of purebred dogs from well-to-dos and "yuppies" who are just as irresponsible as those who are poorer.

Um, I was going by this... If you read from the top, then the comments at the bottom make more sense ;)

I guess a little boy had her~ his mother didn't want him to have a dog~ but someone in a parking lot had given the boy the puppy. This was apparently in a pretty seady innercity area.

Yeah~ my friend who picked her picked her up said specifically she did come from an unsavory neighborhood. That doesn't make her any less cute~ but it might just increase the odds that she is more mutt and less cross~

Heinz 57

She's perfect......When I was a kid my Mom made us take Hienz 57 sauce and Hot dogs to the "Cultural picnic" at elementary school~ because we are "A little bit of everything!" She'll fit right in with us!

I do agree it's unlikely to find a breed like that in that side of town, but it certainly isn't impossible. I know people who live in an area of Tacoma that still wouldn't be considered very nice and they have a Shiba Inu and are considering a Rhodesian Ridgeback from champion lines. I've seen some unusual breeds in some unusual areas. I even recognised a powderpuff Chinese Crested down the street from where I used to live.

And thanks, but no thanks on the elkhounds. You couldn't give me one. I'm not fond of the terriers' or spitz breeds' personalities. :)

New puppy pics! More guesses!

It's been 4 weeks. She is almost 3 times the weight she was when we got her. Her little legs are getting very long! My husband has named her Xochytl (pronounced Zoshi~ apparently it is Aztec~ means flower~ and we pronounce it wrong~ it SHOULD be pronounced "So-chee")

She is starting to look more German Shepard than anything else to me.

She is also a real little terror. It's been a very long time since I've had a puppy in the house~ but as I recall the others before always looked to me to see what I wanted and came right to me when I called. This puppy has a mind of her own~ I call and sometimes she comes to me~ but sometimes I swear if she had a middle finger she would flip it at me as she ignores me completely. I can see we are going to have to have some discussions on exactly who is Alpha Witch before she gets bigger! LOL!

I'm a little late, but I'm thinking mutt. Good, old-fashioned, 'Amuriken' mutt. ... either that, or geranium-eating sunglow.
:santa:

She's looking good (and comfortable!).

That is one serious looking little puppy! I hope some solid obedience training is in her future. ;)

She's about 4 months old now ~ I think the guesses may be a bit easier now. MY guess is German Shephard and Collie~ don't those look like Collie ears to you?

And don't worry~ we are scheduled to begin private obedience lessons with a good trainer on Oct 11th. She already knows sit, down, and wait~ but she IS a serious little girl with some socialization issues (I think due to being removed from her litter too young) and needs some very serious obedience lessons!

She is a beautiful dog! And I think you might be right about the mix.. I'm no dog expert, but I can see it..

Ya know, they make balls and frisbees for dogs. ;)

Just kidding. She's growing up nicely.

LOL! I just took those pics~ Will (my son in the pic) has a baseball he was throwing for her~ but everytime he throws the baseballs she grabs that rock and brings it back to him! He gets up to go get the baseball~ and she brings him that rock!! We have no idea where she got the rock~ (we checked carefully as I caught her chewing up the corner of the HOUSE outside this morning) but she sure likes that rock!!

She's a little "odd"~ when she gets bored she will chase her own tail~ and it's long enough that she often catches it~ then she runs in a circle biting her own tail repeatedly until it hurts~ once it starts to hurt she lets go and looks suspiciously around for who bit her!

She sounds more intelligent than odd! I bet once you get her training started she'll shine, but always be a handful if she gets bored. Definatley sounds like classic collie teen to me!

Ahhh... what you have there is a certified 'Rockhound' then... My grandfather had two several years ago... If you threw a ball they'd stare at you with a look of 'So you can throw, big deal' but the moment you picked up a rock they'd be dancin' and prancin' like crazed fools until you tossed it and then they'd take off and bring back an even bigger rock for you to throw.

She's is a sweet pouch though, once you get past the barking and the chasing of the cat! lol
