need help with corn snake

my new corn has gone a sort of grey dark colour all over is it shedding or dieing??? and has not ate for 2 weeks

It's probably in shed phase, but that shouldn't last anywhere near two weeks, unless it's a very mature snake. You haven't given us much info. How old is the snake? What is its normal coloration/phase? When did it shed last? What is its feeding history before the two weeks of refusals?

itis 16 months old it has only discoloured in about the last 2 days, it is normally bright orange and red, it shed bout a month ago it use to have 1 hopper every 5 days!! hope this helps

I agree it's probably going into shed but it sounds strange for an amel to 'turn grey'... is that the actual color or is it more like a whitish opaque look?
If it's in shed it will clear up in a couple/few days & then shed soon afterwards.

Sometimes they will not want to eat if in shed.

If it used to eat hoppers is it now not eating or have you just moved to bigger food?

I'm guessing that it's a normal, Jen. :) I'm also guessing that it didn't turn gray, but merely darkened and/or dulled in coloration. Correct me if I'm wrong, ross.

My amel is in blue right now, and he looks horrible! If I hadn't seen him before in blue, I would think he was sick too. He's so pale that he almost looks like some kind of snow corn. I can't wait for his new colors to come out. He gets more and more yellow with each shed.

I only had my Amel for a few mounths and when he first went into blue i fort he was ill.

Maybe this will help... I actually just posted these pics in the Photo Section, but I will post them here for you too. It show's my Amel before Shed and after Shed. Perhaps this is what you are seeing with your snake.

In case your snake is a normal, here is a normal in shed, and after shed.

the strange thing is it has gone back to its normal colour now but there is no skin ! do they eat it as he hasnt eatin for 2 weeks and i still cant get him to eat will he die????

It can take a week or so before the old skin gets shed after clearing up so I would not worry yet
they can go for a very very long time with no food, if you are offering it food evry day you might want to back off and give it some time to complete its shed process before offering food again.

Hi Ross... it does sound like your snake is going to shed -- It should do so in a matter of the next 5 days or so.... I would wait for a day or two after it sheds to try to feed it again. It is not unusual that it hasn't been eating (alot of snakes will fast during blue phase) but I would get a bit concerned if it becomes overly lethargic or does not eat after a few days of shedding!

Let me add -- you may find that when your snake sheds it usually does so on a fairly regular schedule -- You could feed it an extra feeding or two near time or just after shedding but only If not eating for several weeks during this time has become a pattern.

BUT extra feedings are not recommended on a regular basis -- only if this type of non-feeding behavior continues (during blue phase)

keep us updated!
*photos are always nice*

Wow. My little corn eats during blue. We just offer on his feeding day and he munches it down like a little piggie. I'm guessing this is good then?

:crazy02: would like to say a big thanks to everyone who has helped with my questions!
i was very lucky i actually saw it shed and have attached a photo and a link to a video of him/her shedding!!
