I got an albino corn for Valentine's Day. Is there any way to figure out the sex? I have it in a 29 gallon tank with carpet and bark. The guy at the pet store said to use Repti-bark, but someone else said that's BAD!!! It has been eating pinkies (1 every 5 days), but since it's already around 20 inches, should I be feeding it fuzzies? I was told that it hatched late last summer. It's healthy, growing and apparently happy. I handle it at least 20 minutes a day (sometimes up to a couple of hours off and on). It doesn't bite, it eats good and it gets plenty of fresh air. Am I doing okay by it? It has a fake rock water dish that doubles as a hide box.

I have used Repti-bark with out incident in the past. I like using it, but the size of my collection makes it cost prohibitive.

If you think it is ready to move up to larger meals, try feeding it two pinkies first. If your snake handles the larger meal without incident, it should handle fuzzies just fine. From your description it sounds like fuzzies wouldn't be a problem.
 
i just moved my amel up to fuzzies. i've been told it was too early. he is only 3 months old, but he is 20" and bigger than some corns i've seen that are 6 or 7 months old. another way you can tell if bigger food is better, is if your snake starts looking for a way out of the tank a few days before feeding time. what that told me was that he was hungry and wanted to go look for his own food. as for the repti-bark, i just put about an inch thick layer in my 50gal tank. looks good. very easy to clean snake poo, and my amel seems to like the texture of it better. harder than aspen, not as dull as newspaper. but keep in mind like it has been said before, if you start to get a larger collection then go with paper towels or newspaper. easy, cheap, and the snakes can read in the bathroom.
