Axe'!
Well, my corn snake collection is complete (for now) because around 10:00 this morning, my new motley hatchlings from Serpenco showed up. Freyr and Freya, as I have called them, are now in their new homes and settling in nicely. In the few minutes I had to handle them in order to get them into their cages, I learned that Freyr, the male, is very active, but not agressive (even after a stressful trip from Florida). Freya, the female, wasn't too happy about me reaching into her little deli cup. She struck at me and rattled her tail. I hope it is just because of the long trip, and not because she's got a real attitude problem. I decided it would be less stressful to just dump the deli cup into the new cage, but then she tried to bolt. Hope she settles down a bit. I have to feed them this evening. I know people recommend to wait a few days, but I'm going out of town tomorrow and I would rather them eat while they are still settling in than to have to wait for almost a week.

Now that I have 4 hatchlings, I have 3 in ziplock containers with very secure lids. However, I've got my female motley in a sterilite container, and it looks very easy to escape from. Binder clips won't fit over the lid, and I don't have any rubber bands big enough to fit all the way around it. I didn't really want to use tape because I'd have to replace it every time I have to open the box. Are there any other crafty ways to secure these things? I'd hate to come back from my trip this weekend to find one less snake. I'm sure my roommate would love me for that :p

you could try running out and getting bungy cords. If you dont like that idea then try using a long belt.

Where are you trying to attach the binder clips??

I have 4 or 5 sizes of Sterilites and I've successfully used binder clips on all of them.

This is a weird sterilite (its actually some sorta off-brand...) and the edges don't hold the clips. They slip off at the slightest pressure to the lid, and it bugs me. I'll try the bungee cord thing though. Thanks!
