Hey everyone! My little baby corn snake came in today:) I'm so excited but I have a few questions. He got overnight shipped so I know that he is pretty stressed so I put him in his shipping container in his tank. When he is ready will he leave the container and explore or should I gently remove him from the original container? Also, how long do you guys suggest I should wait to hold him? I have heard several different time spans varying from 24-48 hours to a week. I just need a solid time frame. I don't want to stress him out even more but I also want to start socializing him. Thanks guys!!!!
 
he'll leave the shipping container when he's ready, but it also won't hurt him if you remove him yourself. leave him alone for a week except for water checks and then start handling a little bit at a time.
 
After a few weeks, pick him up gently (scoop him if you can, they are more comfortable if you don't come at them from above) and let him exercise, slithering from one hand to the next, using your hands like a treadmill.

Be sure to wash your hands before you handle him, I use unscented Neutrogena soap, I have found that Scarlett is repulsed by perfume-y scents. Then wash your hands really well after handling him, don't forget between the fingers. This will help prevent the spreading of any bacteria that snakes can carry.

Congrats on the new arrival. Welcome to the addiction. I started with 1 a little over a year and a half ago, now i have 2 and am contemplating broadening my horizons and getting a Royal Python. Lol
 
I also received my new baby corn. When should I attempt a first feeding? I have seen 2-7 days, 3-5 days, and other durations. I want to feed him in a separate bin, so how could I feed him in a separate bin if I'm not supposed to hold/move him for a week?
 
Do you know when he was last feed? I would aim for 5- 7 days then feed. You can move him to a seperate container. The handling is more like don't take him out and do lots of manipulating. Moving to a different container is fine.
