New Canadian - seeking Okeetee

crazyforcorns

hatchling
Greetings from Alberta..

I have joined so many forums to read and learn what I can about my daughter's new red albino corn snake. We are in love with her and my husband and I have decided to get another. My daughter doesn't want to share her Prescilla. :shrugs:

Our favorite is the Okeetee. I believe from what I read, the only difference between the Okeetee and the Normal is the thickness of the black lines around the saddles. Is this correct? We are seeking a male.

If anyone can direct me to a breeder in Alberta that would be great! I did find a breeder with some lovely ones, in Ontario, though I'd prefer not to ship. (Extreme Snakes). I am sure there are reputable breeders out there that aren't on the net.

Thanks to everyone for offering information..Happy New Year!

Okeetees

Nice to here from more Canadians. Where are you in Alberta. I got this little girl in Calgary.

Hi Richard,

I'm in the Spruce Grove area on an acreage. We bought Prescilla from Annette in Carseland. (Wrappin' About Reptiles).

Cuddles is cute, is she a normal? Where in Calgary did you get her from?

I haven't taken any pictures of ours yet, but will post as soon as I do.

Thanks for the reply.

She is an Okeetee, babies are always different. I got her from J & J's on 17th ave in forestlawn Calgary. They had some more boy I believe?

Richard

Welcome aboard.. You can post a wanted ad down in the Canadian members forum, someone is more than likely going to be able to help... Caroline might have something for you..

Richard, I think you have a nice looking normal, but I really don't think that is an Okeetee, the borders are way to thin IMHO..

Here is a one of my pic's, this one is no doubtedly and Okeetee... Notice the borders...

Before I forget, I wanted to add.. That all Okeetee's are normals, but not all normals are okeetee's..

Regards

Tandj,

Who is Caroline? Can you put me in contact with her?

I saw quite a few pple selling normals as Okeetees, but when I looked at pictures of young Okeetees, they already had outstanding colors and markings. This is what confused me. I want to make sure I get an Okeetee, not a normal.

Thanks for your reply Tandj,

Kathy

Check the Canadian forum on this site.. She is one of a few breeders in Canada.. You also have Hanney, Mary in Regina, GreenMan exotics to name a few... Your going to have to ask them though, as I am not sure who is going to have the Okee's for you. Unfortunantly I am lead to believe that the more desirable morphs are typically not sold in stores and your going to go to a breeder, and more than likely your going to have to get it shipped via airlines. Unfortunantly I do not know if this is the only method to ship live animals in Canada or not..

Although in the summer time I can't see why Greyhound could not be done..

Regards

If you want to be sure you get an Okeetee phase corn, then definitely buy from a breeder and ask to see the parents!! The brilliant colors and thick borders are a selectively bred trait and the typical adult appearance is lost with an outcross. Even with great parents, it can be very hard to predict which of the babies will turn out terrific.

Tim Cranwill in Winnipeg had some outstanding Okeetee phase corns from ExtremeSnakes lines - originally Love line genetics. I know he sold a male to Ryan, here in Regina, but I am not sure if Ryan has a comparable female to breed that male too. The true Okeetee phase are not at all common in western Canada - though there are many corns sold as okeetee.

Shipping is not as difficult as you might imagine - adds about $60 to the cost of a baby and only possible during warmer months of the year - but there won't be many babies available this time of year anyway. You might check out the Canadian Reptiles web site and Tim Cranwill has a great site - he can refer you to others with Okeetees if you drop him an e-mail.

Hi Mary,

Thanks. I did contact Tim and he sold his Okeetees.

I have tried to contact Extreme Snakes, but no luck in getting a response yet.
I'm thinking they could be away for the holidays or something. Maybe Ryan knows of someone?

I'm still searching, I know there is one for me out there somewhere!

Kathy

As I have mentioned many times before, I am hoping to return to Western Canada ( although it might not happen ), so I am slowly trying to build up soem nice stock for future breeding. Although I doubt I will sell many high end morphs, I have considered finding other okeetee and other bread and butter morphs of high qaulity..

Regards

As far as I know, Simon (Extreme) has moved back to Hong Kong, or is in the process of doing so. I don't think he will be able to help you. But it sounds like there are lots of other breeders up there who have them in the summer.

As mentioned earlier, most of the best babies have been sold already and the pickings are pretty slim now anyway.

Yes - Simon sold Extremesnakes - but haven't seen much of the new owner on lists or forums. They have been attending shows in Ontario though, so may still be handling business and shipping.

You can contact Ryan (Regina - Living Skys Reptiles) through his web site http://www.livingskies.8k.com/ - he did get a very nice male from Tim.

Well Cindy did get back to me (new owner of Extreme Snakes) and I have asked to be put on a list as they are going to breed them. They are 100% Love line which is what I really desire. I saw a picture of the Abbott's Oketee (thanks to Shawn from Greenman exotics). He's such a tease, I guess that line is in the States too, drat!!

Thanks for the link to Ryan's site, I'll have a looksee. Maybe I'll have some luck there.

I ordered Kathy Love's new book..I can't wait to get that!

Thanks for everyone's help!!

Kathy
