My new corn is on her way here, I have the set up ready with is a BIG tub with about 200 holes in it everything is ready but one problem. The heat pads that you get say GLASS ONLY, how can i heat this tub so that I am not melting the plastic onto the snake, anything i can place between the tub and the heat pad so it won't melt the plastic but still give off some good heat. Or is there another way.

PLZ HELP.

Do you have a thermostat?
The appropriate temperature for a corn snake should come no where near high enough to melt plastic.
I think what it probably means is that it either sticks best to glass, or transfers the heat best through glass.
I only have a glass viv, so I can't really comment, but I know plenty of the people on this site use plastic containers, so you'll have to wait for their advice for something more specific.

Tons of us have used UTH's with plastic critter keepers tubs and the like.
As Korrin rightly stated your UTH should not even be getting up to the temp hot enough to melt the plastic.
So feel free to use it and breath :)

Well seeing how the UTH should only be in the low 80s if it's properly regulated; that isn't going to come close to melting the plastic. It doesn't melt when you take it outside in the summer, so 82º won't melt it either.

You don't need to attach the uth directly to the tub anyway. Simply place it on a piece of glass out of a cheap picture frame, or on a piece of tile, and then place that under the tub. All uth's should be regulated with a thermostat, but even an unregulated one will not reach temperatures to melt plastic. It would melt itself first if it got that hot. I use heat pads under plastic tubs all the time.

I used the UTH stuck to a piece of tile under a plastic tub method while Hickory was small. It seemed a lot harder to maintain a constant temperature than when the UTH is stuck to the bottom of glass viv. This could have been because it was the smallest size I could find (about 4"x6") and it just didn't put out very much heat.

my tubs are on heat mats 2, like everyone else says should get no where near hot enough to burn, remeber to use a thermostat tho.
Good luck with your new baby
Louise

I use full sized heaters and just put a smaller portion of it under the tub. No problems ever maintaining a temp. As long as the spot over the uth reads 82 degrees or so, they'll be fine.
