Hey all....

I just wanted to exprese my happiness about ym first snake. I bought him from simon fung. Its a OCC. I just got her yesterday and she eat for me right when i put her in her new cage. So i was happy about everything. Right now i am using a small shoe box rubermade for its cage with 2 hides and the water dish on the cool side. My temp ranges from 84-86. I am using about an inch of aspin chips and the beding. And i have enough pinky mice to hold an army of corns for a while (exageration). But yeah if anyone sees anything wrong with my set up or has any suggestions then just leave me a comment. I will post pictures once my stupid camera gets sent back to the company and they give me a new one because its defaulty. But thats besides the point. You all know what its like to have your first corn and how excited you were. So write about anything like stories or thigns i have to watch out for. Anyways thanks for reading.

Bye for now

Jon

Hi Jon. Congrats.

Your temps are too high. Your warm side should be low to mid eighties; your cool side should be low to mid seventies. What are you using for supplememtal heat? I ask because it isn't easy to control temps in small rubbermaid containers. I wouldn't use aspen for a hatchling in a small container. Paper towels are better, and they're easy to change out. Important, considering that hatchlings are pooping machines.

Good Luck,
-Dean

hey

The heating pad i am using on the lowest heat is what i am using and it only goes to 84. so i may just put something between the heating pad to cool it down a bit... and i am not sure about the cool side temp. But i am just going back home now to see how the snake is doing. I may or may not be on tomorrow. What did you mean alternate heating? Thanks a bunch

= bad news

Feeding you snake in a layer of aspen is dangerous because pieces of the substrait can sometimes get stuck to a pinkie and the snake will end up getting a pinkie with a side of aspen shavings. =/ To eliminate this problem simply feed your snake in a different enclosure then you house it in. The "feeding tank" can be as simple as a deli cup. When your snake's done gently lower her back into the rubermaid so she can warm up and digest well.

Good luck with her, hope all goes well.

This thread would get more attention in the appropriate section. "HUSBANDRY" might be a good start.

I don't think I mentioned "alternate" heating. I was asking about your supplemental heating, and now I know that you are using a heating pad. I would just place the heating pad under one end of the plastic container, so that 1/4 to 1/3 of the floor is in contact with the pad. You already said you had the water bowl on the cool side, which is good. But these little containers can really hold in the humidity and create condensation. Adequate ventilation holes can help control this.

you should listen to these guys on here i was new snake owner last year and i found the advice here invaluable.i also think getting snake and feeding it the same day as you get it and house it could be asking for potential regurge', i was told when i got mine to try and wait 1-2 weeks befofe first feed from me.
but if you had no probs suppose it is okay good luck with your new snake, hope he/she will give you the pleasure mine has given me...
