new to the forum, not to reptiles. I am adopting 2 corns from a kid on craigslist today, apparently he is unable to take care of them any longer. I owned a corn in college for a few years, but had to adopt him out due to the fact the RD didnt like him there. Ive owned annoles, leopard geckos, day geckos, I fostered a boa for a friend for a few months. I just love reptiles in general and am quite excited to get back into the snake workl.

Ok, so the guy i got these guys from didnt describe them very well apparently or was afraid i wouldnt take them maybe. Both of them are about 5yrs old. there is a male who is solid red, and a girl the guy described as smoke, i havnt measured but the male is about4.5 feet maybe 5, the girl is 3-3.5 maybe. the male is a bit girthy, i am a bit concerned he is overweight, and i only had my 20long tank ready to go as i thought they were juveniles. i am in the process of cleaning my 65 gallon aquarium so they have more room, but what concerns me is the guy i get them from said they have always lived in the same tank. I was under the beleif that adult snakes will eat each other if kept in the same tank, i know im a bit rusty but please advise on this, i think my girl will be ok in my 20long for now and i want to have my boy in the 65 gal by early next week. they dont have names as of yet and any suggestions are welcome, also ill be posting pics tonite for y'all, so any help identifying color schemes would be great, im out of the loop and need to catch up on all the details again. both of these guys are extremely friendly and non agressive/defensive btw.

It's a shame he misled you, but it's great that they're getting a good home...and if I'm correct then corns are not usually cannibalistic. that trait depends on the species, but everything I've read recommends against co-habitation anyway for other reasons.

I would have taken them regardless of almost anything he said just woulda prepped my big tank first lol...I love animals.

Welcome to the forum! You'll want to get a copy of Kathy Love's book. It's a great reference, and belongs on the shelf of every corn keeper. It's available from Amazon and other places, but you can get it directly from Kathy at www.cornutopia.com.

They do need to be separated for a variety of reasons. Do a "cohabitation" search if you need information. Welcome back to the wonderful world of corn snakes.

If you look at the way the scales are stretched over the back part of the red one I am telling you THAT is either a VERY FAT male or a FEMALE ready to lay eggs soon. I would give both a nest box just in case.

As to colors the smaller one is an anery type, the big one is a bloodred. A nice one too! I really think the red is the female and will give you eggs soon.
