Hi Everyone! My name is Brandy, I was directed to this forum thanks to a person on a different forum I go to. We just got our first corn snake 2 weeks ago. Too young yet to know the sex, just a baby snow corn. Technically the snake belongs to my 14 yr old son, but in reality myself and my 13 year old daughter take care of it the most. I bought it knowing that would be the case, and so the tank stays in the livingroom with the rest of our mini reptile zoo. I also have been talking with a breeder about the possibility of a lavender corn once his hatchlings emerge and we can see what's what. I would LOVE to have a lavender corn.

I am still learning new things everyday about the best way to care for corns. For now it is in a 12x12x36 exo terra, because it is so tiny yet that size will work for a while and then we will be going larger when needed. There will be many more options as far as designing the inside once we upgrade than now in this tank but he/she seems happy enough in there.

Anyway, I look forward to perusing the board here and learning all I can about corn snakes

Hi Brandy! Our corn is technically our kids snake also, and because I also assumed I would be the primary caretaker, our viv is in the living room as well :)

Although the kids paid for the snake, viv, mice and everything else, dad and I somehow still ended up forking out a few hundred in necessities that they 'forgot'. And now because the viv is in my living room, I've spent the last 2 weeks working on a DIY background project to ensure this viv has some decent eye appeal! :)

I find that's usually the case with the kids' pets. It's my son's snake also but I've been doing most of the nursing & reminders. As well with his other pet.

I don't mind though because I'm the one that secretly wanted them. (just didn't want to seem like the crazy pet lady ;) ) Lol!

Welcome. I'm a newb too.

My parents got a dog for them (I was terrified of them for years, got bit by an alsation) but its been me that looks after him for the last ten years (mainly) and then I moved out and got a snake!

I understand completely swellmomma. Our childrens pets always ended up being our responsibility as well. Constantly reminding them to feed, water, and then go behind them and make sure the feeding and watering was done. Ahh, but kids bring so much happiness into ones life. Definitely share some pictures when you get a chance or link them in your album.

I will post some picture this weekend. My teens are gone for cadet winter FTX starting tomorrow night so I will have some breathing room for things like that. just picked up oldest from work, home for 30 more minutes and then out the door to take teen daughter to dance class and then everyone has youth group/kids church right after. With the gone this weekend I have time to sit for more than a few minutes and resize the pictures to post.

I don't mind taking care of all the pets, I feel better saying I was being a good parent buying them for the kids to teach responsibility than being thought of as a reptile hoarder rofl. Once spring expo rolls around in May I may not have the excuse anymore, because my shopping list is growing.

Off to read more of the forums to learn more about my corn and hope that I don't see too many more that I would love to have :)
