New here...

oops it'd help if I uploaded a picture.

There is a "Preview Post" button you can click right beside the post button just so you know ;) you can check what your post will look like and if it has a pic or not.

Your little one looks like my male Lavender :D who is also in blue right now, he is about 8g I think. Poor little guy wasn't fed very often by the breeder :(

I generally wait 3-5 days for a new snake to settle in before handling or feeding. Depending on how far they have been transported. But in your little ones case it probably wont eat till after it sheds.

About shedding. It's eyes will clear up and look normal for a few days before it actually sheds. This is an important time to make sure the humidity in the viv / container is at a good level. Let us know if you have any questions :D

Some provide their snakes "moss boxes" so called because it's a box with some moist moss that the snake can pack itself into, you can also use a paper towel. I roll half a piece of paper towel in a toilet paper roll for my little ones and I mist the cage a little for they few days before the shed :D

Ah yes, I apologize, I am new to forums in general. I do not plan on holding him for a few days. I will let him settle in first. He was transported in a car, not too far. Does anyone on here have a pic of Lav eyes when not "in blue" ?

Just to confirm temps,

Warm side 80-85, cold side 75-80?

thanks!

OMG, I am sooo sorry to hear it passed! I have been seeing that alot lately on here and it worries me that we'll be next. We have gotten 3 from Craigslist in the last two weeks and am worried since we didn't find the 2 hatchlings in the best situations. But I have heard that hatclings die and we never know why so I'm sure it was nothing u did.

I'm so sorry Sinsational! I have read that a lot on here too in my short time, and it seems that there is usually no cause for it.

Thanks everyone. I picked up a new snakey tonight. My hubby is such a sweetie. He felt so bad for me that he called around to all the pet stores in town, finding out what morphs they had and the prices, and how they care for them. I got a normal male. I never liked the normals and then I saw this beauty. His colouring is exquisite. He has gorgeous brown eyes, and he just finished a Complete shed. I saw it in his tank! So, hopefully no problems with this baby.

I'm so glad the loss of the first did not put you off having snakes. You got the first from a breeder right? You should let the breeder know that it died so they have the info for their records. You never know they may offer a replacement!

Amanda, I am really sorry to hear about your snake. Hang out with us for a while and ask lots of questions. We will know the answers to some of them.

Aww thanks everyone. I talked to the breeder through my friend (she refuses to talk to me). The breeder is blaming me and is pissed off at me for "killing" one of her most beautiful snakes.

Forget the breeder then and tell your friend that that isn't someone he/she should deal with either. There are not many ways you could have killed that baby snake in the short time you had it that would not be visable in some way. The breeder should feel bad you have no snake after all they got their money. I'd say its some kind of nutcase and the snake probably would have died whether you had it or they did. I honestly can't say you did anything wrong ( I read your other thread).

That's a bit harsh. It's a known fact that hatchlings can - and do - die for reasons unknown. Nothing to do with anything done by the new keeper or the breeder. No need to make it so personal, although it's obviously a very upsetting situation.
