Leonore

snake momma
Hi All. My name is Leonore and I am in the Chicago area. I am a mother to 3 boys and currently researching the purchase of our first corn. The only other pet we have is a betta fish named Mr Krabs. He is almost 2 yrs old now. ...I hope to avoid a SpongeBob inspired name for the cornsnake.
My 8 yr old is very interested in reptiles and, after some reading (Corn Snakes in Captivity and various internet sources) I am comfortable with the care required for a snake and actually getting pretty excited about it. I'll confess that I fell in love when I started visiting them at pet shops and reptile shows. Such lovely and amazing creatures!
So I am here to learn from you all as I further educate myself, set up the habitat, adopt our corn, and raise him/her.
I've been lurking for a couple days, so I hope I don't ask too many repeat questions, but please forgive me if I do.

Looking forward to getting to know you all and your corns!
Leonore

Welcome, Leonore! (Beautiful name, btw!)

Feel free to ask all the questions you need. There is also a search function at the top of the page if you have specific questions about heat, etc. Here's a link to a care sheet
http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64125 and you can also check out the Basic Care and Husbandry board for even more answers. You'd be hard pressed to think of a question these people can't answer. We have a great group of folks, some new like myself, and many seasoned keepers and breeders plus everything in between. Make yourself at home! :wavey:

Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll find TONS of useful information here, just like I did. Good luck with finding your future Corn! :)

Hi Leonore, welcome.
If you've been lurking you know how much stuff is here to learn, even way beyond the basics if you want.
Stick around, it's a little fun sometimes too.

Hey, Leonore!

I'm out in the Western suburbs and I recently got into corns with my two boys (along with a red tail boa and a ball python). We have two corns - actually I consider the corns to be mine! Two months into it and I absolutely love the corns. The variations in color and type make choosing the one thats right for you pretty easy, or pretty hard! I don't know if you adopted yet, so good luck! There's a reptile show in Lake County on Mother's Day. Have you been to that show? The vendor list seems to have some reputable corn breeders on it. I've been to the DuPage County show, but never the Lake County show. I'm trying to find out if it's worth the drive for me.

Kingwoz, THANK YOU! I did not know about the show in Lake County! Do you have more info on it? We STILL don't have our corn - local shop doesn't have them in yet and the breeders I spoke to don't yet have any that appeal to me. Our viv is all set up perfectly and ready to go and the boys can hardly contain their excitement (ok, and I'll confess, I can hardly contain mine). It would be awesome to find one sooner rather than later.
Thanks again!

AH HA. Found it online! Yippee! My husband made fancy reservations for a Mother's Day brunch downtown, but maybe we can find some eats up North. It is my day, afterall. :)

(OMG, when did I start choosing snakes over a 5-Star Mag Mile outing?)

Thanks again, Kingwoz

Yay, another member from IL! :wavey: Welcome to the strange and exotic world of corns. lol I live in Naperville and do the Wheaton show/Scott's. If you come out please stop by and visit with me. I'd be happy to answer any question you have. LBoz/Lori just visited this past weekend and we had lots of fun.

Glad you found it! I started a thread in the miscellaneous forum about the show because I'm curious to know if it's any good. I emailed the show coordinator and asked if he has an updated vendor list that he'd be willing to share. I'll share it with the group if I get it. The website is pretty nice, which I think is a good sign.

And by the way - Mother's Day is for whatever the Mother wants to do, and I'm sure the kiddies would enjoy the show over a brunch! :bird:
