New Little Bitty One!

I happened into Uncle Bill's...a local pet shop today to pick up some feeders for my brother (who's bp only takes live)...and I was talking to the store manager there, and he said they just got a shipment in with some corns so I figured I'd check them out...(before they got tossed in together in the housing they have there...which isn't as bad as some places...but I'd rather grab one before they get put in there;) )

They were all pretty small, but this was the healthiest looking of all of them, and since I am in there ALL THE TIME, I got a deal on him/her.

From what I can visibly tell, I'm seeing Amel Motley...the picture drowns out some of his color, but he is def. orange-ish and has the Mot pattern and a clear belly....anything else genetics wise is beyond me :)

Here are a couple shots of his setup....could have gone with a cheapo sterilite, but I like being able to see in real clear...and as much as I hate paper towel, I want to be able to see at a glance if he's deficating ok, and it's cheap. When he gets a little bigger I'll be getting him some nicer hides, but till then it's TP rolls....(I've had a few before and stuff gets $$expensive$$)
He is sitting on flexwatt run to a Johnson Thermostat. Fake plant and water dish. Basic, but the essentials...and better than anything he'd have had at the pet shop :)

No name...and no weight (gotta get my scale back from my lil' bro)...

Names?
-Josh :)

What a pretty little baby :D that set up is just fine, all ours are in glass tanks, my BF doesn't like the plastic tubs, plus we like to see them also.

They are lightweight, and easy to clean...no grooves or anything in them like most Sterilites...and I like the little built in feet to lift it up off my probe for the thermostat...the little stick on things that you get with tanks never want to stay stuck for me :)

There is a bigger one too, made by the same company that I'll bump him up to when the time comes... :D

Thats one of the nicest amel mots, I have seen in a long while! Word of caution to the plastic on flex watt. I have heard and read things about flex watt on that particular type of plastic (kritter keepers etc). I read that it can get really hot (with a thermostat) and it can crack. I saw where you can cut the front out of a sterilite and, replace it with clear plexi glass. And the plastic would be safe for the snake.

Thanks!

And I have used these in the past without any problems but I'll keep my eye out for anything.

I have learned not to believe everything I read....

Supposedly uncontrolled UTH's melt holes through Sterilites, but I've yet to see a UTH (even uncontrolled) that reaches 221 degrees Fahrenheit (melting point of ABS plastic)...

Ok, just letting you know! Sure that amel mot is not a Ultramel mot or a hybino mot! It's a freaking stunner!

He's got alot of orange on the upper half of his body (closest to his head) and then it fades way out towards the tail....like I said, I was just glad to get him before he was put in their display thing....

We'll just have to let him adjust and see what he's looking like in a few days...that's the only picture of him so far...but I'll post more as he progresses.

Very cute. Hey, you know what my hatchlings love- that I never would have tried if someone at work hadn't suggested it? Take a styrofoam egg carton and cut the cups into pairs, then cut the lid into quarters. I'd give him one of each! Mine like to flip the cups over and lay in them.

Oh ya, apparently his name is going to be Bumblebee...my 4 year old step son is on a Transformers kick right now...that's all he has wanted to watch for like 2 months...lol

That's a cute little one :) I have the same fake plant in one of my tanks too.

VERY nice!! Congrats on that one!! :)

Just be aware... Sometimes the snakes can squeeze out of the "long" edges of Critter Keepers... Trust me on this... I've had Night Snakes get out and the pet store down the road's owner was surprised to find that one of her baby kings had done the same thing and got out of the critter keeper. Fortunately, the critter keeper was ALSO within a 10 gallon tank with a lid on it so the king was still inside that tank. :)

Adding weight to the top of the critter keeper actually makes it easier for the snake to get out as it causes those long edges to "flex" outward... creating even more wiggle room for it to get out. If you're gonna continue to use the critter keeper, you might want to try using some velcro strips to keep those longer sides "in close" to the cage.

Just thought you should know! :)

This one is kinda different from other critter keepers I've had...it doesn't so much clip shut like most, it's just a really really tight fit all the way around...it's actually hard for me to pull the lid off sometimes! Lol...but I'll keep my eye out :)

That baby is really pretty!! For an amel, it looks rather yellow-ish to me, as compared to a lot of the bright orange amels I've seen lately. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a caramel het in there. :] Congrats on the new little one!
