So I have been reading this forum for the past few weeks and admiring everyones corns. I decided to buy my first ever snake today when I spotted what I believe is a butter of some sorts at the nearby petsmart... I kno petsmart isn't the greatest place to buy a pet but I never seen a butter corn there, I was going to buy off of one of the great breeders from this forum but the weather in PA is -5 right now and didn't want to risk the deliver.

i'll probly end up buying another one and I have been eyeing steves corns =)

Well nice to meet everyone and I hope to enjoy many chats with you all.

Ps. I've been a bearded dragon breeder for the past 5 years and snakes are new to me so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Heres a pic of melo or shine depending on gender I haven't checked yet =). Any1 want to confirm that it is in fact a butter. Btw it was caged with an anery and what seemed to look like a ghost to me.

Cute!! Don't feel bad for buying from petsmart, just be really careful that you watch for health issues. A lot of members here have unique finds from chain petstores, including myself.
I don't have any advice to give you, other than read lots of threads on the website! I LOVE nanci's care sheet. You can find it in her personal forum here, under snickers snakes

I've been reading tthrough a little bit of everything here. I also don't usually buy from chain stores but of the health issues that can possible come along. I usually find a local breeder, they just seen to care and tend to know more about the species they are selling. For example, they called this a fancy snake.

They kinda made me feel like I knew more then them. They suggested me sand as substrate and a huge tank. I'm glad I read here that to big of a tank can stress and sand can ruin scales
And cause other problems or I would of been leaf down the wrong path.

Thanks everyone , I also am trying to figure out the age of my new snake. I know he isn't a hatchling because he is probably close to 20 inches.

Welcome jl, I am a new corn owner from PA as well. Drop me a line if you want any info from a fellow noob lol.

Everyone on this site has done more than I expected in help for my Red Albino.
