Hey everyone, my name is Hayley and ive recently adopted a 5yo male corn from a family who no longer had any interest for him. I have never had a corn, or any snake before for that matter, but i am a great animal lover (with 5 dogs and 3 cats) so i couldnt see this poor guy get thrown into a pet shop, or even worse, in the woods. He is a lovely snake and very friendly. I often let him roam around the room while im on the computer and have no worries about getting lost, he never seems to want to move too far from human contact.

It took me a while to find a site that could help me with all the questions that i needed answering, as the family before couldnt really tell me much. This forum is wonderful, and everyone seems genuinely pleased to help others in need. It is so refreshing!

I hope to learn lots about corns from everyone here, and now know where to come if i ever need any advice! Keep up the good work everyone xx

Your right, there's loads of really nice people here and all they want to do is help out...
There's already loads of info here and anything you want to know but can't find, just ask... And replies come quite quick, so no waiting.....
 
Hi Hayley! Welcome and good for you for adopting a "used" snake that needed a good home!!

Just a small warning, though... Be careful letting the snake roam. Most people in the hobby agree that snakes don't really crave human contact, they just put up with it so there's really no guarantee that your snake will not escape you even if you're in the room. Another worry is that it could get into a really small, tight spot and get stuck somewhere where you can't get him/her out.

Anyway, again, welcome to the site!!
 
I was going to add that too - if you let him roam, keep one eye on him at all times! You only have to count the 'escape' threads to know how easy they are to lose when they decide to go a-wandering!

Congrats on your rescue, you did a brilliant thing, if the snake had been dumped it would have certainly died in this weather. I think it's supposed to have been -6 here in Yorkshire yesterday - no wonder my snake is burrowing :)

If you haven't already, post us a picture of your new guy sometime.
 
thank you for that advice. i have been reading about a lot of the escapees on here and will be keeping an eye on him from now on. I have posted some pictures of him on my profile page thing. Hope you enjoy them
 
I have no idea. The previous owner said he was a corn, and i didnt really have any reason to doubt him. If he isnt, what could he be?
 
Sorry, I posted that comment in my haste to leave work ;) I'm probably miles off the mark, just when looking at the 3rd and 4th pictures yesterday, I noticed that he looks a lot like mine who, too, has 'no neck'. Mine has emoryi in him, he is a creamsicle :)

Looking again at the 2nd photo, he has the right shaped head for a corn. There's no certainty about anything any more unless you are 100% sure of the genetics, I just didn't think that, of course, you won't know his origins. I don't want to open up another hybrid debate in this thread so I shall run away now :sidestep: I've no reason to think he is another other than a normal/classic corn.
