New Member Intro and Looking for some Advice

Hi Everyone my name is Melissa, I am from Upstate New York. I am a stay at home mom of 3 children, 7 four legged furry kids (our dogs), 2 cats, 4.3 beardies, 2 ambilobe chameleons, 1 wonder eye gecko, and 0.1 06 charcoal corn, 1.0 07 Hypo Lavender Het Amel & Anery corn (these 2 are my b-day present from my hubby) and 1.0 09 Motley, 0.1 09 Albino Miami, and a 0.1 09 Het Blood. The last three corns are my kids'. We have owned Corns, BP's and Red tails in the past but never bred snakes-they were always just pets. I would like to get into breeding corns so i would really appreciate any and all suggestions and advice anyone could give me. I am trying to learn all the different morphs and colors of corns-wow theres alot! The charcoal and the Hypo Lavender Het Amel & Anery were going to be my first pair but not sure if the two would be a good pair to breed? Thanks in advance for any advice! Melissa

Hi there and Welcome Sounds like you have a small zoo at your house already lol I am also planning on starting breeding next year. What I have done so far is purchased the color morphs that we (my Boyfriend and I) like best and try to have pairs for the future. Thankyou both very much! I am really looking forward to learning as much as i possibly can about corns. We do have a zoo here! The bigger the family the better!! Luckily i have a very understanding husband who shares my love for animal! His favorites are definitely the reptiles. Do you have any advice on how to get pics up? I have tried and tried to put pictures up and it won't let me. Thanks again, Melissa

If you want to post pics on this thread you have to click the Post Reply Blue Button located on the left above your first post or down on the let bellow the last post NOT the quick reply button. Or you can start a new thread in the photo gallery. Either way

* You will get the screen where you can type in the text box
* Scroll down the page to where you see the the Additional Options area
* Click on the Manage Attachments button
* A small upload window will come up
* There you can brows your computer files for the pics you want to upload
* When you have the pics you want be sure to push the upload button

* Wait a few seconds then minimize the upload window, you should see the pictures names
under the Manage Attachments button. If you don't your pictures were probably to
large for the up loader to re size. In the uploader window there is a key showing how
large the pictures can be for what filetype the pic is. I take high quality jpeg pics so I have to
crop them and resize them to 800 X 600 pix in my Photoshop program.

* When you figure that out and you have uploaded the pics you want to you can
preview your post, which I highly recommend. There is Preview Post button right next
to the Submit New Thread or Submit Reply buttons.

*When you are satisfied with your post, submit it

This site is full of wonderful information and pictures. Take some time and search the forums, use the Search fuction, and ask questions. Marcel Poots, a member here, has a great morph predictor you can download here: http://www.cornsnakes.nl/

Breeding is fun BUT it comes with a whole bunch of other issues both good and bad. You have to be able to care for all your animals properly, be able to find enough food for them, get them to eat, find a way to move the hatcling out if you are not planning to keep them all. You need to know your local and state laws, you may want to get a shipping waiver certificate from FedEx so you can legally ship your animals to your customers. You should have a reptile vet available within driving distance if you ever need one. This hobby requires that I spend a lot of time in my snake room, keeping it climate controlled to a point is not as easy as you may thing, time washing reptiles supplies, purchasing the need items I need to care for them, heating racks, bins, water bowls...ok, I am sure you get it!

I am not saying to give it up, this is a great hobby and I love it more than I complain about it. Do some reading, ask around, and have fun!

Thankyou both, I really appreciate all the help. I completely agree, there is alot of care, time, and money put into raising and breeding-if you do it correctly. It should not be all about money because its not if you care for them the way you should and they deserve. Thanks again for the great advice!

I was wondering if charcoals normally have yellow on the sides of their heads or could it possibly mean she is het for something?

Glad you figured out how to post pics, Beautiful girl and yes the yellow is normal. Charcoal is form B of Anerythrisim (Black albino with no red pigment) Anery corns are form A and can develop quite a lot of yellow as they age. I'm not exactly sure what genetically makes Charcoal "Anery B" but I'm sure someone wiser than me could tell you.
