Just recently "rescued" two corn snakes from a person off craigslist. He had two corns in one 10 gallon tank. He was also using a heat lamp. and only had one hide.

They are still small, one is 2-3 months at about 14 inches and the other is 6 months at about 18 inches. He said feeds them every Wednesday.

Right away I purchased a 20 gallon long tank and seperated them. I also bought some ut heaters but Im not sure if they are heat the tanks properly.
Any suggestions on which brand or what kind of UT heater to use/purchase?

Also should I change their feeding schedule?

I dont have a weight of them just yet as I just got them yesterday afternoon and wanted them to settle in before handling. That and he feed them the day before.

Any other suggestions?

I did read up on caring for them prior to posting this but it kinda hit me as information overload.

I dont have any pics of them yet but I will shortly. Their names are Link and Zelda

Welcome to the forums. :wavey: I'm new myself, so I don't have any information to contribute. Love their names BTW.

As long as you regulate the uth's with a thermostat or rheostat generally the brand doesn't matter. Just measure temps right above where the uth is on the bottom. Thermostat with the temp probe (PetSmart, PetCo, other pet stores as well sells it) works best with Uth's. I've never heard anyone complain about what brand of uth they were using when they had an issue, only that it was running unregulated on the glass bottom. At two months or so every 5-7 days feeding works. 6 months 5-7 works also, after a year I feed once a day, others do it different with no issues.

Welcome to CS :)

Thanks for the warm welcome and their names just fit perfect (at least for me :p )

Thanks for your input and welcome. I will keep that info in mind.

Welcome! I'm new myself, and all I have to contribute is that if you are keeping snakes that are still kinda small in a 20 gal, you should make sure that there is a ton of ground cover so they don't get scared. :)

Welcome to corn snake land! Don't really have much else to say, everyone else answered your questions and mentioned anything I would have already. Remember, if you have any more questions or need any clarifications, to ask away!

Thanks Nythain for the welcome.

So what UT heaters do you guys/gals use for your vivs?
Just trying to get a general consensus.

I use a Zilla brand. You'll find that brand isn't quite as important as making sure you get an appropriate size. It should cover 1/4-1/3 of the length of your enclosure. Any more will lessen temperature gradients between cool and warm side, giving too much "warm". Any less you might find it hard to keep a warm side warm. Someone else asked about brands, concerning functionality, and the popular opinions were that pretty much all brands work as well as the others and with any brand you can expect defuncts.

Thanks for this information. This was one of my main concerns.
