I just bought an 04 Okeetee @ a reptile show in Slidell , La. He has eaten , he threw up the remains of a pinkie on the bumpy ride home. But, this snake is maybe 8 inches log, an not as big around as a pencil. Seems very small? any tips? thanks

Poor seller! He shouldn't have sold you a snake when it was still digesting. I assume you bought a baby snake? Just put him in his new home asap and leave him/her completely alone for a few days so it can calm down and get used to his new enviroment. Then in 7 / 10 days feed him half a pinky. A week from them feed him another half. Then resume the normal feeding scedule.
Perhaps you might want to take some feces to the vet to look for parasites seeing as the seller is a bit doubtfull. Though most likely is was stress causing the throwing up you can't be to sure. Especially when so young. Good luck and take some pics for us when the snake has settled down :)

well, the pinkie had been digested for several days, judgeing by I could barely make out what it was. It was a whole, day old pinkie as far as I can tell. So i'll probably try some live day old pinkies. I'm sure it was the rough interstate that caused the regurge, but who knows. I did as best I could picking out a baby w/ the thickest borders. I may be wrong but I think it was exotics by nature, I didnt really pay attention to the breeders name, It appears to be in excellent conditions, very bright so far. I'll keep you posted. thanks for your quick reply!

Regardless, after a reguring the stomache is really upset and needs a while to recover. Feeding to soon might again upset the stomache. Waiting a while with the first feeding untill the snake has settled in a bit is an advice everyone here will give you.

I wasn't planning on feeding within the next few days, which my last post makes it appear that way. I was thinking about 4-5 days from now. thanks

4-5 days isn't enough to leave after a regurge. 7-10 days is. If it regurged yesterday, don't feed it until next saturday at the earliest.

I agree - leave it 10 days from the day of the regurg. Even though your snake is very small he will be absolutely fine going without food for that long. Hopefully the wait will build up his hunger and he'll eat really well from now on. If he regurgs again - get him to a vet. When you do feed him - offer him just one pinkie. If you don't encounter any problems you can always feed more than one at a later feeding. Finally, handle hism as little as possible before the next feeding to allow him to acclimatize.

Yep 7-10 days is the standard as I understand it, 10 being best. This allows the snake time to recoup the lost stomach juices and allows it's esophagus to heal as it was most likely burned by the strong enzymes and stomach acids that snakes have in order to digest whole animals- bones, teeth and all. Amazing critters!

Cheers,
Jason
