I can't believe I actually pulled the trigger on a con snake. I had a Haitian boa many years ago. I liked having him but I never quite bonded with him. He died one winter storm that found the power out and me not able to get home for a week. Anyway that was in the late 70's and I never really had the urge to get another snake.

About 6 or 7 years ago I saw an Okeetee corn on the internet and I was blown away! Still lack of space and odd working hours kept a corn on my back burner. Well a move halfway across the country into a much bigger house than I ever had before and retirement via disability made seriously considering a new snake a reality. I still had other reasons to put it off but when I saw JMK Snakes for sale post and noticed he was located in Missouri too, I figured I would see if it would be feasible to go pick one up. It wasn't but I had already passed the wishing point of no return so I had him ship me a beautiful young boy just coming into spectacular color. I think I lucked out. He's young enough for me to consider him still a baby but he's well started and a real charmer. Have an instant bond with this little guy and am looking forward to hanging here to brag, share experiences, and keep my boy healthy and happy.

Welcome from a native St. Louisian! We are in Phoenix now, and DO NOT miss the winters or summers there!

Post some pics and the name of your little beastie, and welcome to the group! Don't hesitate to ask any questions at all, we were all new to corns once upon a time.

Thanks for the welcome. Pretty busy getting him settled in. It'll be a couple days before I get some pics of him up. I have found a name for him though. Shesha. The fist thing he did when I opened the shipping tub was bite my finger. I actually flinched as if he were a 12 foot python! Then I went in search of names I saw this: SHESHA (शेष): Hindi myth name of a naga king of serpents, one of the primal beings of creation. The name was derived from the Sanskrit root shiş, meaning "that which remains." Yea. That's him!

We have a few things in common. I lived in the Alton, Ill. area for most of my life, and worked in St. Louis most of it too (I'm now in Denver). I also had snakes back in the 70's, but then discovered girls and cars and moved on. It had been 30 years since I got rid of my last snake (hence my userid of backafter30), when I brought up the idea of breeding them to my wife. I really wanted to build a sports car from scratch in the garage. The snake idea was to make my wife see how reasonable the car idea really was. It backfired, sort of. I didn't get the car, but I did get a great hobby that my wife also takes interest in. She goes to all the reptile shows with me, talks to breeders, helps me decide what to breed, what not to. Some of the snakes are hers! She's very supportive, and will sit and hold the snakes for hours at a show. We had been married for 25 years, and I would have bet money that she would have run screaming. So, no car, but I'm really happy how things worked out.

So, good luck to you, and welcome to the hobby, but just try to stop at one. These things are like potato chips!

As far as missing St. Louis... great zoo, great garden, but, no... I don't even like to visit.

Oh, Imo's, yes. And Ted Drewes, and toasted ravioli. But not the humidity, or the economy, or the taxes (in Illinois).

Must not hijack... Welcome Cane!

It's about introductions here. Not just our corns so no problem "hijacking". Been here for 3 years now and I gotta say compared to North Jersey, the Saint Louis area I'm in feels like Eden! My sister has lived here for over 30 years and I moved out here so she could help with caring for our elderly mother.

I am absolutely in love with Missouri, but this won't be my final residence. I do plan to get to a more rural part of the state eventually. A little acreage and maybe an out building just for my animal related hobbies, well then I will definitely get some more serpents to go along with my turtles, bettas, and cichlids!

By the way. Imo's...........not one of the selling points that got me here.

Hmmm. You are dead to me. :madeuce: :nyah:

And oh, yes, t-ravs! Here if you order them they are cheese filled. SO wrong!

I love me some STL food (Italian food, Ted Drewes, Toasted Ravioli, Pi, good BBQ), but I hate Imo's so much. It's such a divisive opinion, but there it is. :sidestep:

Plus, Indianapolis has no hills. I never knew how precious hills are until I moved here. Most of my family is still in STL, so I get to visit often enough to gorge on the food.

Thanks for that. Living around here sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like my pizza toppings on a cracker!

Monday afternoon it will be 2 days since Shesha's feeding so I'll post a Picture or 2. I think he's a great looking extreme okeetee!

Sigh. Well, more for me then!!! And their salad dressing is awesome, we buy several bottles every time we are in town and also shredded provel by the bag. Wrapped well in a frozen cold-pack and stuck in the middle of your suitcase it travels well!

Cane and Irish, where in St. Louis do/did you live? And Irish, "where'd you go to high school?"!!!

I'm in unincorporated Creve Coeur. Kinda between Creve Couer and Olivette along Olive Blvd. Lots available in the area without driving too far.

Nice area, I worked at Harrah's casino before it became Hollywood Casino.

I grew up in Clayton and went to Clayton High.

I grew up in Affton, right next to the Webster Groves border. My parents moved to Fenton when I was in high school. I went to LHSS (smaller school, right by Tesson Ferry and Gravois). I love south city. If I still lived there, I'd be in Webster Groves or Shrewsbury if I could swing it.

Here's my new boy Shesha!

Oh, Shesha is SO pretty! Nice markings!

Right after my little sister graduated my parents bought 25 acres of woods in Eureka (same exit as 6 Flags, but on the other side of 44 - actually called Allenton but no one has ever heard of it, the PO was in a lady's living room) and lived there for about 10 years. BEAUTIFUL area! So rural but you can be anywhere necessary within 15 minutes.
