New pet pics-- dog, cat, hedgie, snakes, etc

Aww, those gerbils are so cute. My daughter has two, and they're the cutest little monsters on the face of the planet. Even though they keep us all awake at night doing laps on the wheel.

Nice to see your lovely collection!

Thanks Janine!

Gorgeous animals and setups! I especially like that Hogg and of course the hedgiehoglet!

Tula, I'm really starting to think you have a thing for boids or something... :D

I've never had a wheel in with any of my gerbils. I was always worried the metal wheels would catch their tail, or the 2nd gerbils head (I always keep mine in pairs) and I did try a plastic wheel once, on a stand, to alleviate this issue, but they ate the entire wheel. It was plastic match sticks by the time they were done with it.... :eek1:

What kind of wheel do you keep with yours?

BTW, the rats WILL be getting a wheel, but I need to get one of the 12" size ones-- Petsmart was out. Biggest they had was 8", not even near large enough.

We have a silent spinner, which unlike it's name is not silent. It's better than the old metal wheels I used to have for my gerbils when I was a kid though.

It's totally enclosed so they can't get anything caught, nor can they hurt their cage mates. They're pretty affordable too, I think our Pet Supplies Plus carries the hamster/gerbil size for about $8.

They're also made from the really hefty plastic with minimal seams, so it's really difficult for them to chew apart. We've had the same wheel for almost a year now, and there are only a couple of teeth marks on it. This is from two girls who managed to chew through a cage to escape (found them hiding under the fridge), so they're pretty sturdy. lol

Well I went out and got the Silent Spinner and I'll be damned if those crazy gerbils aren't happily running on it. I've never in 12 years of gerbil keeping used a wheel-- guess I will from now on!!! Thanks, StormRose!

LOL. I had hamsters before... AND a silent spinner. The thing is, they were SOOOOOOO intense on the wheel that they STILL made noise... Which drove me insane! LOL.

Well mine are all in the basement... but I did have Pikachu the Chinchilla in my bedroom last year. She runs on a wheel at night. I just got used to it. ;)

Thanks, StormRose!

Happy to help! :D

Ours go crazy on the wheel too, they just love it. They'll get it going so fast that it starts humming and it sounds like it's an airplane about ready to take off. I've gotten mostly used to it, but it drives my hubby (the light sleeper) crazy still. lol
