New puppy!! German shepherd!!

wasuslitherin

WARNING: I can be.....
I have loved german shepherd and my mom and grandparents have had them as I was growing up. I just got a 10 week old male, his mother had died and it was only him and his sister. He is almost black with tan under-belly, inside of his legs and markings around his face.
I will try to post pictures(If they will go thru).
I need name suggestions badly.
So far I like Axle, Ironhide and Warren.
I would like longer unique names like Ironhide( from transformers).
But if you have anything, let me nknow..

He's gorgeous. I love GSD, too. He looks like a Rogue or a Rasputin. I'll think of more!

Oh, oh, Wolverine. He kinda looks like one, too, lol.

He is a good looking GSD. I love how they think they are little dogs and curl up in chairs and on your lap like that.

I LOVE GSD'S.
hence the name GSD lover. ;)

My girl was really dark as a pup like that, but now that she's a year she's got quite a bit of tan/red on her.

Gorgeous puppy, I sugest checking out leerburg.com if you haven't already (great site, specially for GSD owners)

I plan on getting a male GSD sometime soon, I like the name Tonka.
Wolverine is really adorable too though.

Just wait. When Preston is full grown he will think he can still fit on that chair!

Interesting site. If I ever own another working breed dog, I will be looking into things there in more depth, I think it has a lot of content that other working breed dogs would benefit from. The ones that haven't been bred for showing in conformation can be somewhat challenging dogs to own, and need a lot of stimulation & human-led interaction, and there are all kinds of cool things there that would foster that. My take on GSDs & other working breeds is that they don't do well at all without a strong human pack alpha to keep their energy & intelligence moving toward nondestructive goals. Otherwise you wind up with dogs that dig tunnels to get out or dismantle entire couches out of boredom.

That's why mine have their own couch! LOL
My ex monster in law recovered a loveseat couch when my (now ex) & I bought our house. The minute the couch was put in the house, Koda, my 80lb male decided he liked it. It's been the dog couch ever since...
So, when I divorced my ex, I told him I was taking the GSD's, & of course Koda's couch. LOL

Very true. GSD's are very pack oriented, & need a strong human to be their alpha.
I never leave mine outside unattended. They're part of my family, my pack, they're with me most of the time. They even prefer to come to work with me, & "guard" my truck wheil I'm working. They've never destroyed anything of mine.
Again, congrats on your new puppy! GSD's are by far the best breed out there ;) (IMO)

Ours is very uhh...im not sure how to describe him. Since day one of me coming to visit, then move in with my boyfriend he has to follow me from room to room to room if we are home alone. Its cute but can be annoying if say, I get up from doing some work to walk 5ft to the kitchen to get a drink.

These dogs DO need a lot of structure.

They will also always have their favourite (pack leader) and this doesn't mean to one who feeds them, they're not won over by food.

You'll also have to figure out your drive of your dog...
Praise, food or prey (my dog is food, but will respond to all three).

They also need their exercise, or they will get distructive (mine ate the wall when she was a pup).

I love these dogs, but they're too smart for their own good.
I have to say this is my favourite dog breed, they're loyal, intelligent and can pretty much do everything.

My dog also has her own couch/chair that she sleeps on. :p and Preston is an adorable name! Have fun with your new family member!

Preston is a Cutie Pie~!!
Thanks!!! He is a trouble-maker! Looks can be deceiving!!

That is what I am afraid of.... My parents' dogs were lap dogs!

My grandparents dog was like that to me. That is what made me want one.

I am well aware and am doing obediance training with him as soon as the classes start and he is old enough.
I know its going to be hard work.. That is another reason I wanted one, for the challenge.
