New puppy!! German shepherd!!

Ours is very uhh...im not sure how to describe him. Since day one of me coming to visit, then move in with my boyfriend he has to follow me from room to room to room if we are home alone. Its cute but can be annoying if say, I get up from doing some work to walk 5ft to the kitchen to get a drink.
My female is like that as well. She's my protector. She follows me *everywhere* My male is about 90lbs (tall & stout), but it's my 65-ishlb female that would be the first to protect me.
These dogs DO need a lot of structure.

They will also always have their favourite (pack leader) and this doesn't mean to one who feeds them, they're not won over by food.

You'll also have to figure out your drive of your dog...
Praise, food or prey (my dog is food, but will respond to all three).

They also need their exercise, or they will get distructive (mine ate the wall when she was a pup).

I love these dogs, but they're too smart for their own good.
I have to say this is my favourite dog breed, they're loyal, intelligent and can pretty much do everything.

My dog also has her own couch/chair that she sleeps on. :p and Preston is an adorable name! Have fun with your new family member!
Very well put :)
GSD's are by far, my fave breed. They are an awesome all around dog. They're great family dogs, do not need to be "protection" trained, they are already protective of their family.

I am well aware and am doing obediance training with him as soon as the classes start and he is old enough.
I know its going to be hard work.. That is another reason I wanted one, for the challenge.
They're not as challenging as some dogs can be. They're relatively easy, as long as they have a "job".
Any dog can be destructive if it gets bored. Exercise is the best remedy for the majority of dogs that get destructive.
It makes me sad to see dogs left outside, when all they want to do is be with their family.
Consistency, as you probably know, is the key. :)

OMG- I love that stage!! Big goofy, bat ears! So cute!
Has he teethed yet?

My GSD is a year now and the joy of my life. Preston is a very distinguished looking pup teepee ears and all- very cute:)

If he hasn't teethed yet, don't be surprised if/when his ears "flop" at about that stage. It's common for GSD's, when they go through teething, their ears flop again, but don't worry, they'll stand back up again :) (just don't let people play with his ears)

LOL I love the party hat stage.

Also my vet told me my girls ears would stand back up perfectly, well they didn't exactly.
One ear is a little wonky, sometimes it's straight up and soemtimes it's off to the side and sometimes when she's running around it flops up and down haha.

Gives her character though.

My first GSD had one ear that ended up leaning when she was full grown. I didn't know about not playing with their ears (it breaks up the cartilage), when they're growing.
Of course, that's one of the first things people want to play with, those big floppy ears.
My current female is part Lab, & I didn't let anyone play with her ears & they stand up perfectly. Koda was an adult when I got him, & he's got the big radar dish ears. LOL

Yeah our vet said not to touch the ears at all and they'd go up, so we didn't touch them.
I think it was because how she would lay on that one since it leans inwards, and we noticed she likes to sleep on that side. :p Ah well, she's still my cutie.

GSD are great dogs, I would love to get another one. When I was a kid thats the only dog my dad would get were GSD's. They are smart, loyal and very protective....did I mention smart? Only problum is up here its hard to get one for under $800.

He is so handsome! No more puppy look!

My neighbors always have had german shepherds, and everyone of them are female, and named Sadie. LOL At least we never have to ask them their dogs' names.

I love his dark face! He is very distinguished. Glad you are so happy with him, he looks like a great dog.

Some Pics from "Pres" (Presley) our GSD.

He had a bad past and we get him out from a dog pound.
The guy who had him before died in his apartment and nobody found him for some weeks.
So 4 Policemen fighted with Presley :devil01: to get him away from the death guy.
Know after some education we have a lovely but not completely harmless dog.
(Sorry about my English, its not the best :awcrap:)
