New snake owner!!!

"Serpent Science"
Hello fellow snake owners......I've just brought home my first corn snake, an Okeetee I believe. I had a wild black rat snake as a pet years and years ago but he made an impressive escape back to where he belongs. But I'm really excited about this new guy (or girl). He's at least a year old and slightly over 2 feet. I work at a pet store and we have a variety of hatchling morphs, but this one called out to me.

Currently he's nameless, but I've come up with the following thus far: Uraeus, Jinta, Gorgon, Apep, Scythe, and Zoidberg. I'm quite picky with names, wanting something original, yet holding some sort of meaning appropriate for a snake. What do you all think about these? Any other suggestions? I'll post a few pics as soon as he digests his recent meal.

And about myself.......I recently received a B.S. in biology and now I am attending nursing school. I am a metal enthusiast who plays the electric guitar (don't worry i won't play around my new pal) and a runner. Glad to be part of this.

Hi and welcome to the forum! :wavey: Feel free to ask any questions you have on here. And it would be great to see pics of your new lil guy (or girl).

The guitar won't bother the snake much.

Pictures of Jinta finally!

So I let him crawl on my bed so I could take a couple pics. He slithered around, paused for a good 5 second, then took a poo on my comforter! I never actually "heard" a snake defecate before, haha.

Whoops, that comforter's a goner!

But anyway, welcome to the World's most wonderful (and addictive) hobby!

Welcome to the forum! I'm also a new corn owner and it happens to be an okeetee as well! Of the names you mentioned, I like Jinta :)

I also majored in nursing, but I left after 3 years and got my B.A. in Psychology. I'm shooting for my masters in a year or two because I don't know what I want to focus on. I'm thinking Social Work, Non-Profit, Child Psych, etc etc etc... we'll see when I get there :) Good luck with your nursing program!

I love the name also & very pretty! My kids play the piano & so far none of mine seem to be bothered by it. They usually play it during the day when the snakes are sleeping. :grin01:

Very warm welcome to you and to your new snake!!! He/She is beautiful!!!

I always check how close my snakes are to pooeing when I take them out...but it's not unusual for a snake do poo in a "new" environment. lol I've only been pooed on once thankfully and the snake as still quite small. :D

Nice snake, welcome to the site! Jinta is a cool name, I have a boa named Uraeus, but the Zoidberg name is funny! You gotta have a snake with personality for that! LOL, have fun with the new snakey! :)
