I'm so excited to be on this forum!

I don't yet have a cornsnake, but so far I'm looking into getting a bloodred or a silver queen or even a blizzard! (Maybe eventually all three?! ;) )

I just want to be as informed as possible before I purchase one!

I've recently discovered a real love for snakes, I used to be terrified of them and I swear it was like a flip of a switch and now I just want them all. lol.

Welcome! You have come to the right place, and good for you for getting the information and set up BEFORE the snake! And yes, you will have all three before it is over. They are a serious addiction!

Welcome from another recent convert! I went from clinical, paralyzing phobia to "I love everything snake-related." It's amazing what you can do -- and what you realize you've been missing -- with a little determination. It really was like a flip of a switch, happening far quicker than expected and illuminating the world in a whole new way. A little over a year later, I'm still loving the journey. Congrats on overcoming the fear...it's a powerful accomplishment!

There is such amazing support and advice from wonderful people here. Best of luck as you make your way through the info here and welcome home your first snake(s)! :)

How do you convince in-laws who don't like snakes that Corn Snakes are amazing?

Grumble grumble! I have a 3 1/2 month old and I think he's just worried about her, but I really would be very cautious to prevent any issues.

I'd focus on the positives. Like how having a pet snake will help to enforce good hand washing practices etc.

I also know that when people think of snakes they tend to think of big boa constrictors and posionous snakes. When I got Jax, the first question people tended to ask whether he was posionous, or if he bites, or if I was afraid of him trying to eat me (Jax is almost 5' and I'm 5'4"). Just work on them.

Ooh, that's a good excuse too! I like it!

ppppssssttt... "poisonous" snakes are actually venomous, not poisonous! Almost everyone says the same thing until they are ed-ju-ma-cated, don't feel bad! ;)
