Hey, I'm getting a corn snake in October when Repticon comes to town here in Georgia. I have a 30 inches long by 13 inches wide and 19 inches high tank. Is this good enough to use from baby to adult? Also, what size UTH should I use for this tank? Thanks for your help in advance. -HeadSetJones.

Sounds like it has the floor space of a 20 gallon long! Should be fine for housing your baby through adult. Make sure that when you have the hatchling in there that you provide plenty of hides so that he won't get stressed from all the room. That being said, I have kept hatchlings in 20 gallons before just fine! I use the zoo med under tank heaters, they are labeled on the packages what size tanks they are good for, so the 10-20 gallon one should work just fine.
Also, welcome to the forum! :)

Thanks! You've been really helpful. I'll be sure to come back here to post in different threads and In October I will post some pictures of my Corn Snake. Thanks again!! :D

No problem! Everyone here is very helpful and willing to get you started on the right path! :)
I forgot to mention that you will want to get a thermostat to regulate the temperature of your under tank heater. If they're left unregulated they get around 120 degrees which is far too hot. You'll want to set it around 85 for corns.

Will do. :) I'm going to the pet store on the 15th to get some new supplies for my scorpion so I'll pick up the items I need for the corn snake there while I'm at it. :) Keep an eye on this thread and I'll bump with pictures of the finished tank.

My check list for my snake's new home.

1.) Zoo Med Reptitherm Under Tank Reptile Heater 10-20gal. -Found on ebay for 17.99 (LPS =21.99)

2.) Digital LCD Fish Aquarium Water Terrarium Thermometer -Found on ebay for 3.29 (LPS=10.99)

3.) Hydrofarm MTPRTC Digital Thermostat For Heat Mats -Found on Amazon for 26.43 (LPS=19.99)

4.) Water Bowl that doubles as a hide *for cool side*. -Found at LPS 1.99-3.99 depending on size I get.

5.) TANK CLIPS!! -Found at LPS for 2.99 for a pack of two.

6.) Aspen bedding -Found at LPS for 5.99

7.) Regular hide *for hot side* ***Haven't decided what kind/which ones I want to get.***

8.) Tank Decorations; Ie Tree branchs, Suction cup plants, and, aquarium backgrounds. ***Haven't decided what kind/which ones I want to get.*** -LPS only had two underwater backgrounds and one solid colour bright pink background. (They have many fake plants and such but I'm going to check out the local dollar stores first and see what's around.)

9.) Humidity box hide. - Made at home with tupperware and paper towels.

10.) Hygrometer. Haven't looked into to it to much but if you have a suggestion on what kind/brand I should get or what you use, let me know!

Let me know what you think of my list. I'll be happy to provide links to any items I found online that were cheaper/better than what I found at my Local Pet Store.

Also, I'm thinking about buying a kitchen scale so I can weigh him to put him on the Munson Plan. I think it'll make feeding way easier for me to keep track of in the long run.

You can kill two birds with one stone for your thermo and hygro if you get the Acurite indoor/outdoor thermometers. They have probes for outdoor temp (substrate/uth temp), indoor temp (ambient air temp), and they measure humidity. I have one on either end of all my tanks to keep track of everything (which might be overkill but I'd rather err on the side of safety:)). Lowe's and Wal-Mart have these litle guys for around 10 to 12 dollars a piece.

You should look into the Zoo Med UTH, it's really nice to have, and make sure you get a rheostat and a thermostat, Welcome to the forum :D

Thanks Ahmad. Today I went into the woods and found a stick I like for the tank. I cut all the bark off and baked it at 330 for 45 minutes. Is that good enough?

Just showing off what I have so far. Almost done. All I need is the heat supplies and tank clips. (that fit!) ... Oh and that thing I did all this for, the snake. :grin01:

Tell me what you think so far.

I'll be getting the snake in October at Repticon if I can find one I like. I'm looking for a Emory Rat Snake or something very similar. (I found out that Corns are not welcomed here in Georgia as pets.) :(

In the mean time I will continue to lurk. Not a day has gone by that I haven't since I joined here.

 -Cheers, HeadSetJones.

Cage help?

Hey there... today I got a thermostat. I cut a hole in the screen top to run the probe wire into the tank. Any ideas on how to close up the hole to prevent any escapes? Also, is there any way to keep the wire inside the tank more neat? Maybe some suction cups would work...

Here are some pics. Sorry about the size.

For the screen, you can get some thin garden wire (I think it's garden wire) and sort of "sew" it back together.
As for making the wire more neat looking... I have just hidden mine along a stick (my cord hole is opposite of my heat pad area grrr) and a fake plant. I hardly notice it unless my snake moves it around.

For the screen I just ended up putting TONS of electric tape over it. Also did the same for the wire inside the tank. I bought another suction cup plant and put it in front of the wire. It looks good. If he ever does get the tape on him, it's hardly sticky so I could get it off easily. I doubt he'll ever get any on him. Now I believe my cage is solid with one way to get out. *knock on wood* All I need now is the snake. I'm so ready for October 15.

Update, I removed all the electrical tape from the tank. After having it on, the wire sort of formed to the way I wanted it and I put a suction cup plant over the part that runs up the wall.

WAIT!!!!!

You can't legally keep a corn snake in Georgia. Might I suggest a Cali King? Better check out the list of snakes you can't keep in Georgia, basically anything native.
