Newbie from Maine, Just got my first snake

Hello everyone. My name is Val. I've always been fascinated by snakes and used to catch and release garters and such when I was a kid. My dad was pretty anti snake though, so I never kept one as a pet. I finally acquired my first this week, now that I'm 32.

I got a large aquarium free (I have a hard time passing up free stuff, even when I don't NEED it) and rather serendipitously a friend knew of an albino corn that needed a home. I don't know how old he is (or if it's actually a he), but I estimate him at somewhere over four feet long. I'm letting him settle in, before I do much handling, so haven't measured.

The first day he burrowed right into the aspen substrate I'm using and stayed there about a day and half. I figured he was just hiding because he's in a new environment. Today I came home from running errands and he was out and had shed! I'm pretty sure it was a good shed, I removed the skin and found the tail tip. And his eyes look clear; I didn't see any old skin on him.

Besides the burrowing, he's been watching my fiance Earl and I. Once when Earl moved too quickly toward the aquarium my snake struck at him and hit the glass. I was concerned, but he looked unhurt. Explained to Earl that he needs to be more deliberate in his movements, especially til the snake gets used to us and his new home.

Oh, and if you haven't guessed he hasn't been named yet. Earl and I have been debating.

Also will get some pictures up asap. :) Got to find the camera.........

OK, going to cruise around the forum and look for some answers on a couple questions I have........

I look forward to getting to know everyone and their slithery friends.
