Newspaper ?

I've used newspaper as a substrate for the last 3 years and have yet to have any trouble with it. In fact, it's much easier than some other substrates i've found, granted it's not as attractive. The question i have is that i've heard lots of people say that using color inked paper is not safe for the snake, but has given me an instance where it was acutally hazardous to the snake. I've had one occasion where ink rubbed off on a snake, but it was black and white paper, so i'm asking is there any legit reason other than an "i think it will...." or "i've heard that it...", not to use newspaper that has color sections to it?

i skip on the glossy because it doesnt absorb as well.

I've never heard of it being a problem. If you wanted peace of mind, just buy plain news print. You can get it at arts and craft stores; pretty cheap for a lot of it. It's the exact same as newspaper minus the ink.

i'm not all that worried about it. i had a friend ask me why the color ink was any different from the black ink, so that's what sparked my curiosity. personally, the only thing i could think of was that the fact that print shop rollers are often cleaned with various chemicals that could possibly harm the snake whereas black/white rollers are not cleaned as often. i was just seeing if anyone out there has actually had an incident where color print endangered their snake
