Next Q - timing

Leonore

snake momma
you know, like the Obama's waited to get the dog.

The main reason we initially decided on a corn as our pet of choice is our lifestyle. We take 2 longer vacations per year (7-10 days) and several short ones (3-5 days).

I have a neighborhood high school boy that is wonderful in caring for the neighbor's *zoo* when she is away, so I am sure he can be trained to properly change a water bowl and re-lock the lid.

My more immediate concern is the mini-vaca (4 days) we are planning to see family over Memorial Day. Would a month or so into our relationship be too soon to leave our baby corn?

Am I crazy? It's just that last silly concern I need to clear up before we start our lives as cornsnake keepers.

Another vacation question:
Is it best to feed it 3 or more days prior to leaving so the poop can be cleaned up?

thanks again in advance for putting up with me.

I think it would be fine to leave the snake for four days. I'd leave a second bowl of water in case it poops in one. Baby snake poo is barely noticeable; you have to really hunt for it. Some people feed a couple days before they leave, in case the snake regurges or something they say, but since the treatment for a regurge is leave the snake alone and do not feed for 8-10 days, what are you going to do anyway, besides remove the smelly regurge from the viv, and maybe, if you are especially concerned, tube Nutribac into the snake. OTOH, it isn't going to hurt your baby to go four days or even seven without a meal while you are gone. The dangers would be a malfunctioning UTH, running out of water, not being secured by a babysitter and escaping. So considering a possible UTH failure, it wouldn't hurt to feed a couple days before you go so the major digestion is over and done with.
